Wilmington United Youth Coalition's HomeBase Family Success Lab Series Breakfast on the Block initiative was a recent success!🥞 We set up shop at the Conscious Connections, Inc. Urban Farm, with Wilmington United Lions Club where we cooked breakfast for the community and provided resources.
Thank you to Hasinah Shabazz from Fulton Bank, Matthew Williams of Conscious Connections, Inc. Urban Farm, Nicole Figueroa from Shue-Medill Middle School, and the rest of those who volunteered their Saturday morning to give back to the people of Wilmington.🙌🏾

Wilmington United Youth Coalition is grateful to celebrate a successful community prevention event HOMEBASE FAMILY SUCCESS LAB in collaboration with Conscious Connections, Inc., CCI Urban Farms, Fulton Bank, Veolia Water North America , Northeast Raising and Wilmington United Lions Club

Together, we raised awareness, strengthened community connections, and provided families with access to prevention resources, financial literacy, career awareness, wellness support, and meaningful engagement.

With 100 community members participating, this event showed the power of partnership when organizations come together with one shared purpose: creating safer, healthier, and economically thriving communities.

A special thank you to our partners, volunteers, families, and community members who helped make this event a success. Through our coalition-driven “Community of Solutions” approach, we will continue to inspire, empower, and grow alongside the people we serve.

Today, the Wilmington United Youth Coalition Homebase Family Success Lab Series was proud to deliver Strengthening Families Prevention Education at the Pal Wilmington with our community seniors.

Participants engaged in meaningful discussion around protective and risk factors, healthy coping strategies, refusal skills, boundary setting, and positive communication skills that strengthen families and communities.

This work reflects the mission of Impact Community Supports Inc. and WUYC to build a stronger Community of Solutions where prevention, education, and support help create safer, healthier, and economically thriving communities.

Inspire. Empower. Grow.

Our Vision:

To Create Safer, Healthier, and Economically Thriving Communities.

“Building Stronger Neighborhoods: How Impact Community Supports Inc. Helps Families Thrive” Published 11/26/25

I’m humbled to share that my journey — and the mission of Impact Community Supports Inc. (ICS) and the Wilmington United Youth Coalition (WUYC) — has been featured in the International Business Times.
This article captures a story that began long before ICS existed:
A school principal in a high-poverty community witnessing firsthand the emotional, social, and economic pressures weighing on young people and families.

🌱 The Moment Everything Changed — My Crucible Moment Thanks Jeff Marshall
During the pandemic, while scrambling to help students secure tablets for state testing, I realized something deeper: Our children didn’t just need devices. They needed encouragement, stability, life skills, and real community support. Students were carrying heavy emotional burdens — and many families were carrying even heavier ones. That moment made it clear:

📌 We cannot test our way into stronger communities. We must support and empower our way there. It was in that tension — between what I was required to do and what my students truly needed — that Impact Community Supports was born in 2020.

🔨 From One Person to a Regional Movement
ICS started with:
no budget
donated coats
character-building activities

What began as one person trying to close gaps has evolved into a coalition now serving over 3,500 youth and families across Wilmington and New Castle County.

🏛️ Building a Community-of-Solutions™ Model
Today, ICS and the Wilmington United Youth Coalition unite:
schools
youth-serving nonprofits
mental wellness providers
volunteers
families
local, state government agencies
civic groups
law enforcement
prevention partners
Our role is to connect, support, and empower. We work directly with teachers, administrators, and families to build trust, increase protective factors, and strengthen social and emotional well-being.

🚀 Scaling a National Vision
Our next chapter is expansion.
With increased philanthropic and corporate investment, ICS aims to replicate our coalition model across counties nationwide, delivering:
prevention education
job readiness & workforce development
financial literacy
youth & family supports
community referral pathways
social media

🙏 Gratitude
Thank you to Callum Turner and International Business Times for capturing this story — and to every partner, community organization , and school that walks with us.

🤝 Join Our Mission
If you believe in building safer, healthier, more economically resilient communities — let’s connect.
We are actively seeking funding partners, foundations, and community leaders to help scale this work.
