🚨 Police officers wearing body cameras is meant to increase public trust and transparency, but the cameras are only as helpful as the policies that govern their use.

📸 Without a clear public right to access body camera footage, these cameras risk becoming just another police surveillance device.

✉️ Today, the ACLU of Delaware, alongside multiple community partner organizations, sent a letter to Delaware’s elected officials and candidates urging them to make body camera transparency a priority in their public safety platforms.

Senator Hocker is trying to eliminate permanent absentee voting in Delaware, but his lawsuit has NOT affected the upcoming 2026 Primary Election. At this time, permanent absentee voting in Delaware remains unchanged.

For the 2026 General Election, ALL permanent absentee voters should request a ballot by OCTOBER 30 to guarantee your vote.

🚨 Wilmington got the Flock out. Who's next?

The City of Wilmington has voted to decommission its four Flock automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras, recognizing the serious privacy concerns that come with mass surveillance.

Flock cameras don't just capture license plates. They log where people travel, when they travel, and create searchable records of our movements with little transparency or regulation as to who can access that information and how it may be used.

Communities across the country are rejecting these systems because privacy shouldn't disappear the moment you leave your front door.

We applaud Wilmington for taking this important step. Now it's time for communities across Delaware to follow suit.

⚖️ A landmark decision for the rights of incarcerated people in Delaware.

In Calm, et. al. v. Taylor, the Delaware Court of Chancery ruled that our clients have a strong chance of proving that failing to decontaminate incarcerated people after exposing them to OC chemicals violates Delaware’s Constitution.

The Court found that our clients credibly described experiencing extreme and persistent pain after being exposed to the chemicals, and that video evidence backed up their accounts. The Court also found that the DOC’s practice of using OC chemicals and failing to decontaminate could cause irreparable harm and long term health consequences for incarcerated people

This is the first time Delaware’s constitutional protection against cruel punishment has been used to challenge the cruel treatment of incarcerated people by correctional officers.

This is an important step toward accountability and constitutional protections for people behind bars. A reminder that civil rights don't end at prison gates.

Our case will proceed to trial within the next 120 days. Follow along on socials and our litigation page for the lawsuit.

Today, the ACLU of Delaware and the League of Women Voters of Delaware are launching our comprehensive voter guides and online voter education resources.

🗳️ Fair elections don't happen by accident. They require fair rules.

For decades, the federal Voting Rights Act has protected voters from discrimination. But as federal protections have been weakened by court decisions, states across the country have begun adopting their own Voting Rights Acts to ensure those protections remain strong. Today, Delaware joins that growing movement.

This law is about ensuring every voter has an equal opportunity to participate, to be represented, and to hold government accountable.

Congratulations to the advocates, volunteers, legislators, and Delawareans across our state who worked tirelessly to make this moment possible. Progress happens when people come together, speak up, and demand a more just future.

This work belongs to all of us, and it will take all of us to keep moving forward.
