October is Health Literacy Month, and we want to shine a light on an issue affecting thousands of our neighbors across Delaware.
Did you know that 1 in 3 Delawareans find health information difficult to understand? Or that 61% of people in our state need assistance reading healthcare materials? Right here in Wilmington, these challenges affect real families, preventing them from making informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
Health literacy is more than just understanding medical terms. It's the key to navigating our healthcare system, preventing illness, and accessing care when it's needed most. When we work together—patients, caregivers, providers, educators, and community members—we can create lasting change in our city and state.
This Health Literacy Month, we invite every Wilmington resident to join the movement. Start a conversation with your family, friends, or neighbors about why health literacy matters. Visit healthliteracyde.org to learn more about how you can help build a healthier Delaware.
Together, we can make Wilmington and Delaware stronger.
