Friends of Brandywine Springs

Friends of Brandywine Springs We are a group dedicated to the preservation of Brandywine Springs Amusement Park which operated from 1886 until 1923. Click "About" below for more info.

The Friends of Brandywine Springs do not intend to rebuild the amusement park. Our plan is to create and maintain a historical nature walk through the site. We want to make a clear, safe trail for visitors to stroll through the park and learn a little Delaware history while enjoying the natural surroundings. Artifacts from the amusement park can be seen in the Red Clay Valley Visitor's Center and

Museum located in the Yorklyn Train Station on the Wilmington & Western Railroad's Greenbank Station property on Route 41 near Prices Corner.

Echoes of the past remain in place! In the photo, several wood trolley ties with spikes in place were uncovered in a section along the lake service road during the new trail construction. The construction company adjusted the coverage of that section of the trail surface, leaving the history in place.

The April meeting of the Friends of Brandywine Springs is this coming Sunday April 12 at 7PM. Our monthly meetings will take place in a new location starting with our April meeting. We will meet at the Green Bank Mill in the hall of the historic grist mill, 500 Greenbank Road, Wilmington DE. Parking is behind the mill or in the adjacent parking lot on Greenbank Road next to the railroad tracks. We will be reviewing the reports from the County Parks Department regarding the upcoming construction start up of the Walking Trail Improvement Project. We hope you have a chance to enjoy some of the recent Spring time weather in the park. Lots of spring flowers are in bloom. Spring is here on the island in Lake Washington as a pair of Canada Geese tend a nest in the Forsythia blooms. (look closely in the center of the photo to find mother goose sitting on the nest in the yellow blooms near the edge of the island)
