It was a beautiful day to celebrate a 20-year partnership! We had perfect weather and fabulous volunteers for Springer Middle School's garden rebuild, generously supported by the Laffey McHugh Foundation. The day began with visits from Senator Darius Brown and Ray Seigfried and a $15,000 donation from the Delaware Division of Small Business as part of the Delaware Grocery Initiative. Our volunteers made quick work of assembling and placing the garden beds. Thanks to Brandywine School District's Facilities Team for providing a skid steer to fill the beds with soil. Many of HFHK's friends were able to join us for the rebuild including HFHK's founder, Dr. Thianda Manzara, former partner school garden coordinators Dave Brown and Wendy Turner, Springer students and alumni as well as new friends from U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester's office and U.S. Senator Chris C***s' office, Advisory, FMC Corporation, , , , Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, CPAs, Lyons & Shuman, Benefits Group and Church Christiana Hundred. After the garden beds were built, volunteers helped fill seed packets in support of HFHK's upcoming pilot partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware's Backpack Program, sponsored by Delaware First Health. Thanks to First Ascent Design for joining us to film and interview, keep an eye on our social media page for more on this! We look forward to this next growing season and the continuing celebration of our 20-year partnership. Let's Veggie-cate The First State together!
