Penn Farm was buzzing with energy today as 8th graders from George Read Middle School - Colonial School District Gunning Bedford Middle School - Colonial School District, and McCullough Middle School jumped into our seed dispersal activity. They learned how wind helps spread native plants, tested out a wind simulation, and then headed into the fields to disperse wildflower seeds themselves. We received the sweetest mail yesterday! 💌

A big envelope filled with thank-you notes from students at Mispillion Elementary School brought the biggest smiles to our faces and warmed our hearts!

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Through school gardens, students are learning to grow their own vegetables, explore where food comes from, and build healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime.

We are thrilled to celebrate Morgan McManus, Caesar Rodney School District’s 2027 Teacher of the Year nominee! Morgan teaches third grade at Allen Frear Elementary School and serves as a dedicated Garden Coordinator in HFHK’s school garden education program, inspiring students to grow, taste, and love fresh vegetables every day.

She’s one of 20 outstanding educators recognized statewide for inspiring a love of learning and demonstrating exceptional dedication to students. Delaware’s 2027 Teacher of the Year will be announced on October 13, 2026.

We are incredibly proud of Morgan McManus and grateful for the passion she brings to her classroom and to the garden. Please join us in cheering her on!
