Irish Culture Club of Delaware

Irish Culture Club of Delaware Celebrating Irish heritage ☘️ and culture in Delaware! Join us for lively events, traditional music, dance, and community connections. 🇮🇪

The ICCD was founded in 1976, as a "family organization" by "a group of local 'Lace-Curtain' and 'Shanty' Lovers of 'Ole Erin.'" According to one of our founders, Jim O'Hanlon, the purpose of the club is "learning and spreading Irish culture and traditions among ourselves and others." We are primarily a social organization, and are not affiliated with any political or religious organization. You

don't even have to be Irish or live in Delaware to become a member of the Club and enjoy our activities! Unless otherwise noted, our meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm at Catherine Rooney's Pub in Wilmington. We host many activities celebrating Irish heritage & history throughout the year, including:

- Irish History Discussions/Presentations on the second Tuesday of each month;
- Board Meetings--to which all interested parties are invited--on third Thursdays;
- Annual Wine & Cheese Gathering in February;
- A Christmas event for children;
- A Christmas Dinner for members and their guests;
- Occasional Ceili Dances and lessons;
- Club-sponsored trips;
- Annual Feis each August;
- "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" picnic in September;
- AND, of course, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Wilmington--with the many activities which surround it! If you're interested in becoming a member, please visit our Membership page and print and fill out the form and return it with applicable dues. Annual dues are only $10 for a single or $15 for a family.

The best advice stays with you for a lifetime. 💚 On Mental Health Day, we’re reminded how important it is to pause, care for ourselves, and care for each other,
sometimes a few simple words can make all the difference. ☘️

For nearly 50 years, the Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been more than just a celebration—it’s a way to honor and preserve Irish history, culture, and traditions in our community. 🇮🇪✨

Featuring bands, clubs, and fire departments, the parade carries the spirit of connection ICCD has championed for decades—followed by the Hooley, where music, friendship, and heritage come alive. 💚

What are your favorite parade or Hooley moments? ☘️

To the Officers, Board, and Members:

Effective today, September 11, 2025, I hereby resign from my role as President of the Irish Culture Club of Delaware and from the Wilmington Fenians as a board member.

This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it is the right step for my health, family, and career.

My commitment has always been to serve the club faithfully and to advance Irish culture and heritage in Delaware and Wilmington. However, I can no longer give these organizations the full energy and focus they deserve.

I am grateful for the trust and support shown to me during my five years as Vice President and three years as President, and I wish the ICCD and WFGC every success in the future.

Respectfully,
David Ireland
