Congratulations to the captain and crew for a great approach into the Drydock slip! Thank you to the Mystic Seaport staff for a fantastic haul. The hull looks in really great condition with minimal growth and only a few barnacles. We are ready to get to work today with some hull scraping and sea chest cleaning!! Stay tuned for more photos! Kalmar Nyckel’s crew had to react with lightning speed when the malfunctioning Mystic River Bascule Bridge finally opened on Wednesday. Check out how the sailors thread the needle, expertly guiding the ship’s towering masts through the narrow opening. ⚓

It was wonderful to meet so many friendly people along the Mystic River while we waited for the bridge to be repaired. Unexpected days on the water often bring unexpected gifts—beautiful views, shared stories, and new friends. ⚓💙

Thank you for the amazing drone photography, Sparrow Drone Aerial Services!

What a sight!

After overcoming crazy challenges thrown their way, our crew made the brief high-tide window this afternoon and successfully hauled Kalmar Nyckel out of the Mystic River at the Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport Museum.

Out of the water, her beauty—and the sheer magnitude of her size—are breathtaking. Just look at the people standing on the dock beneath her bow for scale!

Now, the work that keeps her so beautiful and seaworthy begins. ⚓

JUST KIDDING! Minutes after making our last post, we received a phone call that the bridge was now stuck OPEN and we should go through immediately lest it wouldn’t open again once they got it closed. Not everyone was even on board: we made a few phone calls and RAN.

Success! The ship is alongside the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard at Mystic Seaport Museum for the night and we are scheduled to haul tomorrow.
