What’s the true impact of breastfeeding peer support? This 2026 systematic review digs deep into one of my life passions. Peer support does more than help mothers meet their lactation goals (although it does that). Even more important, it fosters real well-being through the connections mothers forge with others experiencing the same major life transition. Night waking is normal!

This 2024 study describes what’s normal for night-waking in breastfeeding babies 5 to 12 months old. Not surprisingly, 97% woke and nursed at least once during the night. It’s reassuring to know that night nursing at this stage is age-appropriate, not the sign of faulty parenting or a sleep disorder. This Pride Month, we celebrate the many families who nurture, love, and care for their babies.

Families come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and identities. They may also use different words to describe feeding their babies, including breastfeeding, nursing, chestfeeding, and other terms that feel right for them.

At La Leche League USA, our focus is supporting families in meeting their feeding goals with accurate information, compassionate peer support, and a welcoming community. Respecting the words people use for themselves helps more families feel seen, heard, and supported.

We are proud to support families from all walks of life during Pride Month and throughout the year!
