Another mission accomplished.
Today we teamed up with our friends at University of Delaware as we deployed our mobile cooling station directly into the community.
When members of the homeless encampment could not make it to us, we brought the resources to them.
Cold water. Ice. Fresh fruit. Human connection.
Heat-related illness can escalate quickly, especially for individuals living outdoors, seniors, those with medical conditions, and anyone without reliable access to cooling resources.
The most important thing was to see the expression on their face when they receive their new cooler full of cold ice as we provided individual coolers to everyone who registered with a homeless shelter. We also provided them specialized emergency resource response cards with important contact information and phone numbers, including the crisis line.
Sometimes resilience isn't a building or a special event. Sometimes it's simply proactively showing up where people are and meeting an immediate need.
Community resilience is not about waiting for people to find help.
It's about bringing help to the people.
One cooler.
One bottle of water.
One conversation.
One person at a time.
