Arlington, mission accomplished! Placed a wreath on Brian’s marker and that of his Command Sergeant Major while in Iraq, Eli Thomas. I know that Eli was a huge help to Brian when he took over B Company. It was my honor to visit his grave, place a wreath and thank him for his service.

Had a fabulous stop in Lumberton, NJ this morning. The elementary school treated us to a few joyous, patriotic songs. From there we drove into Philadelphia, to the Navy Yard and The Chapel of Four Chaplains. Vietnam POW Ralph Galati gave a very heartwarming and inspirational talk. The Chapel sent us off with a great lunch, a Philly pretzel and a T-Shirt to remember the occasion.
Next we drove into Delaware and drove by the Guardian of Defenders Memorial at the Holy Rosary church in Claymont.
On to the Dover Speedway.

I am writing from the Gold Star House at the Wreaths Across America Headquarters in Columbia Falls, Maine. The WAA Convoy to Arlington takes off tomorrow morning. We will enter ANC Saturday, 12/13. The Worcester’s built a beautiful little chapel to host Military funerals at the National Cemetery on the WAA ‘tip’ lands. Tip lands are where the trees are that get ‘tipped’ to make the wreaths.
Yesterday the Gold Star moms, wife, sister & aunt decorated the Chapel for a service last night. I did the tree, with a little help. I also ‘tagged’ a tree in honor and memory of my nephew Greg Gaffney, Army Veteran & DE State Police officer. My Brian & nephew Mathew Gaffney also have trees ‘tagged’ in the Tip Lands.
This is such a special place with such a special mission! You can watch the progress of the Convoy on the WAA page or listen & live stream: https://www.iheart.com/live/wreaths-across-america-radio-8845/.

Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans! Past, present and future Military.
And please remember Brian! He was born 51 years ago today. Not only on the 11th day of the 11th month, but born in the 11th hour! I often think he could have been born on the 11th minute if his father had not locked 3 old men in his Radio Shack store, who refused to leave when asked. Needless to say this ‘stunt’ delayed him getting home to get me to the hospital!

I have to share this. On Friday, as I was attending a POW/MIA recognition ceremony, actually waiting for the ceremony to start, I received a phone call from my grandson, Brian, (19 yo & named for his Uncle Brian), “Hi Brian! What can I do for you?” Reply: I know this is a hard time for you, (Anniversary of my Brian’s death), and I just called to tell you I’m thinking of you.” How kind and thoughtful of him! I was so touched and proud.
