Delaware Center for Justice, Inc.

Delaware Center for Justice, Inc. Founded in 1920 as the Prisoner’s Aid Society, we serve justice-involved adults and youth while transforming justice in DE.

Our programs support victims of crime, youth at risk, and incarcerated individuals—continuing a legacy of meaningful impact. What began as the Prisoner’s Aid Society in 1920 has evolved into an organization that currently serves both adults and youth who are justice-involved – transforming the delivery of justice in Delaware and implementing programs that facilitate fresh starts for victims of cri

me, youth at risk, and the incarcerated. We are a diverse staff with one vision – to continue the legacy of making a difference in Delaware.

Our work helps children sleep better at night.

Last month, DCJ received a letter from Karrine, whose father participated in our reentry program. She wrote about learning to sleep with one eye open at age eight. It wasn’t because of monsters, but because she never knew when police would knock on their door again.

Her father cycled in and out of prison until DCJ helped him rebuild. He stayed out, and the cycle broke.

"The house felt lighter,” Karrine wrote. “My mom exhaled. I stopped listening for sirens."

Three weeks remain in our 105th Anniversary campaign. Help us finish strong.

For 105 years, DCJ has been Delaware's voice for justice.

Since 1920, we've fought for what seemed impossible: abolishing the whipping post, creating separate facilities for women, establishing probation and parole, restoring voting rights, and passing criminal justice reform bills.

We've never stopped advocating. Will you help by advocating for us?

Here’s a toolkit to make it easy: https://dcjustice.org/105toolkit

In celebration of our 105th anniversary, Former Governor Jack Markell kindly shared his thoughts on DCJ’s legacy:

“For more than 100 years, the Delaware Center for Justice has had an outsize impact on Delaware’s communities. Their unique combination of advocacy and direct service made them an effective partner for my administration as we set up some of the first comprehensive reentry programs in Delaware. Their advocacy made a difference in our criminal justice reforms, including restoration of voting rights, equitable drug sentencing, and evidence-based community safety programs. Driven by a sense of justice, DCJ’s work creates stronger, more just and equitable communities for all of us.

Congratulations on your 105th anniversary!”

We are grateful for Governor Markell’s support and for the support of our community. Join us in aiding the next century of justice by donating at dcjustice.org/105years

$5 helps someone get a state ID.
$5 helps someone show up to a job interview.
$5 helps a child hear, "Dad's picking you up from school today."

When incarcerated fathers come home from prison, DCJ helps them rebuild. That small boost is sometimes the difference between staying out or going back in.

Small gifts create transformation. Big or small, every dollar helps another family stay together. Give $5 (or more) today: dcjustice.org/105years

Release someone from prison without support, and the system pulls them back in. Recidivism feeds on unemployment, unstable housing, and untreated trauma.

Consider what happens when a parent comes home to their kids and stays home for good.

DCJ's Community Reintegration Services helps make that happen by assisting with securing ID, finding employment, and building stability.

Mom or dad doesn’t go back to prison. The cycle breaks.

Last year, DCJ supported 400+ adults returning from incarceration.

⏩ Donate today to interrupt generational trauma. dcjustice.org/105years

Reducing recidivism isn't complicated. It's human-centered.
Instead of punitive supervision, DCJ provides what people actually need:

🏠 Food and shelter
💙 Hygiene essentials
🧠 Mental health care
🤝 Human connection and support

When people have their basic needs met, they can focus on rebuilding their lives. When they're connected to care, they heal. When they're treated with dignity, they thrive.

This Second Chances Month, invest in solutions that work: dcjustice.org/105years
