Grand Opening Summer Soirée ✨

Celebrate a new chapter for the Cape Fear Museum as it opens its doors at 230 Grace Street in downtown Wilmington. On Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 6–9 PM, guests are invited to experience a once-in-a-generation evening honoring the future of history, science, and storytelling in the community.

From inspiring new galleries to vibrant connections with friends and supporters, this unforgettable night features curated bites by Pine Valley Market, a signature cocktail, and an elegant summer cocktail atmosphere. Guests will enjoy live performances from harpist Julie Rehder, The Lark Quartet of the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra, and The Stevenson-Stohl Suzuki Studio—plus planetarium stargazing, floral design by Cape Fear Garden Club, and an interactive photo booth.

Coming Soon: Little Bird in Downtown Wilmington

Chef Dean Neff and Lydia Clopton, owners of Seabird and Zora’s Market & Kitchen, are expanding their downtown footprint with Little Bird, a new restaurant and bar coming to 9 S. Front St., next door to Seabird.

Expected to open in early 2027, Little Bird will build on the team’s focus on sustainable seafood while bringing a new dining experience, daytime offerings, and additional space for private events to downtown.

The project will also breathe new life into the historic building at 9 S. Front St., restoring its long-hidden façade and creating additional dining and event space. Together, Seabird and Little Bird will offer expanded opportunities for private gatherings and special events.

We’re excited to see another historic downtown space brought back to life, thanks to the team at Maurer Architecture and Old School Rebuilders, led by Christopher Yermal.

New Business Alert: Fully Awake Art is now open in Downtown Wilmington! 🎨

Fully Awake Art is a contemporary gallery dedicated to exploring the depth and complexity of the human experience through thoughtfully curated exhibitions and immersive artistic experiences.

Beginning this September, the gallery will feature rotating quarterly exhibitions with evolving curated elements, creating a new experience for visitors throughout each exhibition. Fully Awake Art also offers self-guided life drawing sessions with live models, welcoming artists of all experience levels to develop their skills and connect with the local creative community.

The gallery also features a private Viewing Vault, providing collectors with an intimate space to view artwork and artists with a professional setting to present their work. Figure model training and coaching are also available for those interested in pursuing life drawing.

The Surfalorus Film Festival returns to Wilmington this weekend! 🌊🎬

The 15th annual Surfalorus Film Festival takes place August 7–9, bringing the best in surf films to Jengo’s Playhouse.

On August 8 at 5:30 p.m., head to Jengo’s Playhouse for a second screening of Jack Johnson: SURFILMUSIC, a documentary following Jack Johnson’s journey from making surf videos to becoming a world-renowned singer-songwriter.
