It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Congress must urge the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to expedite the release of all congressionally approved Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) and Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) funding.

These delays are putting survivor services at risk—forcing programs to consider staff cuts, reduced services, and even closures. Survivors can’t wait.

Being out in the community allows our Sexual Assault Response Center (SARC) to share vital information, connect with families, and offer referrals to resources for anyone impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, or trafficking.

Myth: Domestic violence only involves physical harm.

Fact: Domestic violence can be physical, emotional, financial, and psychological. Abuse may look like constant criticism, manipulation, controlling access to money, online stalking, threatening messages, or sharing private images without consent. Not all abuse leaves visible bruises, but all abuse can have lasting impacts.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let's expand our understanding of abuse and help create communities built on respect, safety, and healthy relationships.
