In light of the Nolan Wells story, a North Carolina mother is still fighting for answers more than 9 months after her 17-year-old son, Joshua Gabriel, disappeared at Beach.

Joshua, who was an avid, strong swimmer, went to the beach with a group of friends — all of whom were white except for one who was mixed, according to his mother — and never returned.

The friend he left with called her on Joshua’s phone to tell her that they all went in the water, Joshua went under and didn’t come back up.
