🌟🌿We want to take a moment to welcome our newest team members, Alexis Bacon & Noah Zeigler. As Education Coordinator, Alexis assists with supporting preexisting programs like Branches to Chances and the Urban Conservation Corps and developing additional programming for adult and child education. As Greening Coordinator, Noah plots and plans upcoming greening projects around New Castle County. We're excited to welcome both Alexis & Noah to the team and look forward to the expertise, passion, and fresh perspective they bring to our mission. It's Feature Friday! 🌺What a stunner we have blooming this week! Our native hibiscus (Hibiscus coccineus) is putting on quite the display at the Acme on Dupont St and Delaware Ave. With stems that reach 6'+ and brilliant pink-red flowers up to 5" in diameter, it is sure to turn some heads. It naturally grows in swamps in the southern U.S., so it's perfectly adapted to the moist soils in the bioswale, and thrives during our hot, sunny summer days. Thank you to our Urban Conservation Corps crew member, Rashad, for capturing this shot!

A little more color is coming to Lovering Blvd! The Urban Conservation Corps transformed two empty spaces along the raised median into vibrant annual flower beds.

Using their landscape design skills, the crew carefully selected and arranged plants based on height, spread, texture, and color to create eye-catching displays. These beds are just getting started and will reach their peak in early fall, so keep an eye on their progress the next time you drive by! 🌿✨

🍷 One Month Until Jardin en Vert! 🎶🌿

In just one month, we'll gather for an unforgettable evening of fine wine, live music, delicious fare, and community impact at Jardin en Vert.

We're thrilled to feature Mary Taylor Wines, bringing the authentic flavors and stories of Europe's celebrated wine regions to every glass. Throughout the evening, guests will also enjoy the sounds of Sharon Sable, one of the region's most beloved vocalists, whose captivating performances of timeless classics have charmed audiences for years.

Along with a thoughtfully curated silent auction, every ticket purchased and every bid placed helps support DCH's educational programs, workforce training initiatives, and community greening efforts.

🐝🌿 Happy World Honey Bee Day! 🍯

This honeybee is hard at work pollinating oakleaf hydrangea at our garden! Honeybees play a vital role and supporting healthy ecosystems helping countless plants reproduce and thrive. Today we celebrate these tiny pollinators and the important work they do every day.

✨🌺Last Friday’s botanical double feature brought together the opening night of “Art of Nature”, showcasing Contemporary Botanical Artists, and our Botanical Frame workshop. Despite the downpour, guests filled our space with creativity, conversation, and love for all things botanical! 🎨🖼️

Learning goes beyond the field for the Urban Conservation Corps! 🌿
UCC participants are mastering the identification of 50+ native and invasive Delaware plant species while also learning what makes them thrive—from ideal soil and sun conditions to their role in supporting wildlife and ecosystems.
By combining outdoor experience with classroom learning, these future conservation professionals are gaining a well-rounded foundation for their future careers. 🌎✨
