Bingo, BOOze & Botanical Prizes! 🎃🍻
The leaves are turning, the spirits are stirring, and bingo is back again! Join us for a spooktacular evening of Halloween Houseplant Bingo, featuring 5 frightfully fabulous rounds of bingo with a lineup of eerie-sistible houseplants inspired by the season. Think hauntingly beautiful foliage, wickedly wonderful prizes, spooky raffles, and more!

Costumes are encouraged and Advanced tickets are recommended. Seating is limited.

🌳800 trees planted in just two days!

Thanks to New Castle County, DCH staff, community volunteers, and corporate partners, Windy Mill Park is now home to the beginnings of a diverse native forest. Featuring more than 20 species, including pawpaw, persimmon, hickory, and wild plum, these trees will provide fruit, nuts, and vital habitat for wildlife for years to come.

Planted intentionally close together to mimic natural forest regeneration, this approach helps support faster growth, greater biodiversity, and a healthier ecosystem.

Funding for this project is provided by the U.S. Forest Service Special thanks to U.S. Senator, Chris C***s for his role in supporting this work, and volunteers from WSFS Bank, Bank of America, Incyte and other local community members who accelerated the planting with their generous volunteer labor!

✨🌿 A few weeks ago, we welcomed friends, supporters, and garden enthusiasts to Jardin en Vert, our annual fall fundraiser, for an unforgettable evening. Guests enjoyed a beautiful seated dinner by Toscana, exceptional wines from Mary Taylor W**e, live music by Sharon Sable, and a silent auction filled with unique goods and experiences. Surrounded by the beauty of the garden and the warmth of our community, we celebrated not only a wonderful evening together, but also the collective impact that helps DCH grow educational programs, workforce training initiatives, and community greening efforts throughout our region.

Our hearts are full of gratitude for everyone who helped make Jardin en Vert such a success. A special thank you to our generous sponsors: DeWees Private Wealth Management, Glenmede Stonegates, Betsy & Robert McCoy, and Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate. Your support makes our work possible. 🌾 It's Flower Friday! 🌾

Have you spotted the shimmering seed heads of Chasmanthium latifolium? These bright green blooms are beginning their transformation, taking on beautiful purple hues before maturing into the warm tan tones of autumn.

Also known as Northern Sea Oats, this tough native grass thrives where many plants won't, handling shade and wet soils with ease. Its distinctive oat-like seed heads provide food for birds and small mammals, while their delicate, dangling structure creates a delightful tinkling sound in the fall breeze.🍂✨

It’s goldenrod season again! Arguably our most iconic native fall bloomer is gracing gardens, roadsides, and meadows with its golden yellow flowers.

Unfortunately, goldenrod gets a bad reputation because of a common belief that it causes hay fever, but other plants like ragweed are the true culprits. Goldenrod is also rightfully labeled as a bit weedy, however, although many goldenrod species (like Solidago canadensis) spread via underground stems causing aggressive growth, not all have this tendency.

Pictured here is Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks,’ which does have rhizamatous growth but spreads less aggressively compared to Solidago canadensis. It has delicate arching stems that add an airy effect to the garden.
