World Environment Day, first celebrated in 1972, aims to raise awareness and inspire action towards a more sustainable planet for all. 🌳🌿🌎

This year's campaign focuses on climate action, so here are 4 easy things you can implement in your daily life to make a positive impact:

1. Incorporate more meatless meals in your week.
2. Walk, bike, carpool, or use public transportation when able to instead of driving.
3. Reduce your food waste by only purchasing what you need, using it up, and composting anything leftover.
4. Discover ways to reduce your energy usage at home like turning up your thermostat when you're not home to reduce your AC use in the summer.

Whatever you do, remember that small actions add up and we ALL can make a difference in addressing climate change. πŸ’š

Buzzing into World Bee Day! 🐝🍯

Did you know the honey bee is North Carolina’s official state insect? And we're home to over 500 native bee species! These tiny pollinators do so much for our ecosystems and economy. They help grow about 1 in every 3 bites of food we eat! Without them, our ecosystems and food systems would look completely different.

Here are some easy ways you can help protect bees in your own backyard:
- plant pollinator friendly plants 🌸
- add a bee hotel to your yard 🏨
- reduce your use of harmful chemical pesticides ❎
- leave bare patches of dirt in your yard for ground nesting bees 🐝

The numbers are in! This year, Closet Clean Out diverted 7,959 pounds of materials from the landfill! This doesn't include the 30 ft box trucks we filled with furniture, rugs, and appliances! πŸͺ‘πŸ“’πŸŽ’πŸ‘•

Between May 1 - 11, 56 volunteers, 9 peer educators, and 2 staff members worked together to collect and sort donations from students moving off campus. Every item collected was able to be redistributed to our amazing on- and off-campus partners, including Infant of Prague Catholic Church, Manos Unidas, Good Shepherd, Hawk's Harvest, Vintage Values, UNCW Library, and Campus Christian Fellowship UNCW. Without Closet Clean Out, these items would've likely ended up in the trash.

We want to extend a huge thank you to our partners, volunteers, and the UNCW Warehouse Services team for supporting this event every year. We couldn't do this without you! πŸ’šβ™»οΈ

That’s a wrap on Closet Clean Out 2026!! πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and partners for making this year a success! Stay tuned for the stats on how many items we saved from the landfill this year! β™»οΈπŸ˜Ž
