The Endowment

The Endowment The Endowment was established from the sale of the county-owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center to Novant Health in 2020. www.theendowment.org

The New Hanover Community Endowment's "The Endowment" mission is to address the root challenges in community safety, community development, social and health equity, and education and to develop impactful solutions for every person in New Hanover County. The initial fund was nearly $1.3 billion. Grants will be awarded each year in perpetuity.

Many thanks to the New Hanover County Schools student speakers who opened our public meeting.

A special thank you to Kelsey, a rising senior at Ashley High School, for welcoming us to Minnie Evans, and to Marwa, a recent graduate of Bear Early College High School and current UNCW student, for her thoughtful remarks that reminded us why we do this work and why it matters.

We are proud of both of you and can't wait to see all that you accomplish in the future.

We are also excited to welcome Marwa to The Endowment as our Strategic Engagement and Communications Summer Intern. Selected through a highly competitive process with more than 50 applicants, Marwa has already demonstrated exceptional leadership, talent, and commitment to our community.

Congratulations, Marwa. Welcome to The Endowment, and thank you for the important work you are doing with our team.

💙Thank You New Hanover Community! 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Public Meeting and Board Listening Session. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect, listen to your perspectives, learn from your experiences, and share updates about our work.

A special thank-you to New Hanover County Schools for hosting the event and helping make this gathering possible.

We were thankful to gather at the Minnie Evans Performing Arts Center, where so many important community moments have taken place over the years. From graduations and recitals to performances and celebrations, the venue holds a special place in the lives of many New Hanover County residents. As the school year wraps up, we can’t think of a more meaningful place to come together and connect.

Together, we can continue building a stronger, healthier, and more vibrant New Hanover County for all.

Thank you!
