Wilmington Professional Firefighters Association Local 129 endorses Dane Scalise for the North Carolina House of Representatives.

We don’t take endorsements lightly. Our approach is bipartisan: we support officials from either party who show up for firefighters, listen to our concerns, and back that support with action.

Dane has earned our support through his commitment to firefighters and the issues affecting our health, safety, and families.

🚨 Union Members Responding to Pender County

Our members serving on NC Hazmat Regional Response Team 2 with the Wilmington Fire Department are responding to a propane leak on Highway 17 in the Scotts Hill community alongside an NCEM Area Coordinator.

The team is assisting with air monitoring and identified an underground propane tank as the source. A controlled burn-off is underway.

Proud of our members putting their specialized training to work to protect communities throughout our region.

This November, three Local 129 firefighters will complete the Battleship Half Marathon in turnout gear through our Running for the Hearts Behind the Helmets initiative.

Funds raised will provide quality running shoes for our members and cardiovascular fitness equipment for Wilmington fire stations, helping our firefighters remain ready for moments like these.

👩‍🚒October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 👩‍🚒

Breast cancer is an occupational health concern in the fire service. Research cited by the IAFF has found a 46% increased risk of breast cancer among female firefighters compared with the general population.

This month, join firefighters across the country in raising awareness, supporting those affected by breast cancer, and reminding our members of the importance of early detection and regular health screenings.

Cancer continues to be one of the greatest occupational threats facing firefighters.

Early detection saves lives. Know your risks. Get screened. Look out for each other.

The job doesn’t wait for us to get ready.

Climbing, pulling, carrying and working in heavy gear places an incredible demand on a firefighter’s body and especially the heart.

That’s why three Local 129 firefighters are taking on the Battleship Half Marathon: 13.1 miles in full turnout gear.

Running for the Hearts Behind the Helmets is about bringing attention to firefighter cardiovascular health and investing directly in the physical readiness of our members. Funds raised will help provide running shoes for Local 129 firefighters.

We train for the call. We prepare for the worst. Now we’re asking our community to help us protect the people who answer when it matters most.
