Mia is our second resident cat who was originally a TNR gone wrong. Someone didn’t return her to her own territory after her spay, which can put cats in great danger as they don’t know where to find food, water, shelter and also puts them in direct conflict with the existing cats in the territory, making it very dangerous for the newcomer who’s been dropped there. Mia was found with a horrific leg injury and dragging herself behind a dumpster about a week after her release.
She immediately had surgery to stitch up the wound, and her hind legs were paralyzed, needing her bladder/bowels to be expressed. Her vet didn’t notice she couldn’t p*e on her own. 😑
With nutritious food, supplements, and physio at , Mia miraculously started recovering, despite certain naysayers saying we should euthanize her. Mia’s initially injured leg is still visibly atrophied and she walks with a limp, but she can walk, run, jump, and leap with no issues at all. 💪
Paralysis affects every animal differently. You don’t know how their quality of life will turn out until you try. The most important thing is immediate medical attention. So if you see an animal unable to walk, don’t write them off just yet! Their medical prognosis might completely surprise you.
