The Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce® is proud to celebrate and support the legacy of the August Quarterly Festival—one of the nation’s oldest and most significant African American cultural and religious traditions.
Founded more than 200 years ago through the vision of Rev. Peter Spencer and the historic Mother African Union Church, August Quarterly has long served as a gathering place for faith, culture, fellowship, entrepreneurship, and community.
This year’s celebration carries even deeper meaning following the devastating fire that destroyed the historic Mother African Union Church in May. While the physical structure may be gone, its legacy, history, and impact on generations of African Americans remain strong.
The story of August Quarterly has always been one of perseverance, faith, and resilience—and that spirit continues today.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Reverend Dr. Whitaker for including the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce® in the CBS Philadelphia special highlighting the history, legacy, and enduring impact of August Quarterly. Thank you for helping preserve and share this important story with a broader audience.
Last year, our President & CEO, Ayanna Khan-Flowers, was honored during this historic celebration, making the occasion especially meaningful for our organization. As we look ahead to August Quarterly 2026, we do so with gratitude, reflection, and a renewed commitment to honoring the legacy of those who built and sustained this tradition for more than two centuries.
We look forward to gathering once again to celebrate the strength of our community and the enduring legacy of August Quarterly.
