Living Hope Day Center

Living Hope Day Center Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Peter 1:3)

In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Living Hope is closed. And with a heat index of 114°, there is more at stake than just comfort.

I stopped by the library today to visit with some of our friends from the streets. While I was there, I watched a man become so overwhelmed by the heat that he passed out. When he came around, he was struggling to have a coherent conversation.

This is what a day like today can mean for someone who has nowhere to go.

For most of us, extreme heat means moving from an air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car and trying not to spend too much time outside. But when you are experiencing homelessness, there may be no air-conditioned house or car waiting for you. Shade, cold water, and a safe place to cool down can become matters of life and death.

99° is hot. A heat index of 114° is dangerous.

Days like today are a reminder of why places like Living Hope matter—and why our goal has always been bigger than providing a meal or a cup of coffee. We are working to secure a new location, but what happens in the meantime?

Sometimes what someone needs most is simply a safe place to be.

Please keep our friends on the streets in mind today. If you encounter someone struggling in this heat, offer some cold water, help them find a cool place if you can, and don’t ignore the signs that someone may be in trouble.

People Matter

One thing about being in this work is you have to love people. Landfall people, Monkey Junction people, Ogden people, Beach people, Church people, people with no faith, UNCW people, Business people, and people on the streets.

If you love your city and it's people tell us below who you pray for, who you care for, and who you love!

Community! ❤️

Every Monday, we do our best to serve the whole community.

We serve our friends with a hot breakfast, and we serve our city by leaving our little park cleaner than we found it.

We’re incredibly thankful for the Monday volunteers who prepare and cook the food, as well as everyone who comes to the park to serve meals, pick up trash, and help care for the space during and after breakfast.

This is what community looks like:
Serving one another. Caring for our city. Showing up for our neighbors.

This is community! ❤️

Not a typical Wednesay but the Lord blessed us with sweet friends to lighten the burden. We started our morning with a bible study and then got to packing. It was a strange feeling packing those boxes but we know Gods got us. We cannot wait to see what He is going to do in and through us!

Yesterday, our community celebrated Living Hope. While I am incredibly grateful for the love and support we received, this morning my heart is heavy.

As I reflect on our final day at the Day Center, I can't stop thinking about the tears of our friends. Many shared that they knew they had a safe place to come three days a week—a place where they found friendship, family, dignity, and hope. Hope wasn't just something we talked about; it was lived out every day within those walls.

Today, my heart breaks for them.

Many of our friends already know what it feels like to be unwanted. They live outside, often being told to move from one place to another simply because they have nowhere to belong. Now, there is NO safe place for them to go downtown during the day.

So the next time you see one of our friends sitting on a sidewalk or in a park, instead of becoming frustrated or annoyed, remember this: they don't have another option. The one place they could go during the day was forced to close its doors.

Please continue praying for Living Hope as we work tirelessly to secure both a temporary location and our permanent home. Our friends still need a place where healing can begin.

Today is a bittersweet day for Living Hope Day Center.

For more than three years, Living Hope has been an anchor in our community, and today we close the doors of our home at First Baptist Church FBC Wilmington. This building has been so much more than four walls—it has been a place where our friends, volunteers, staff, and community partners found belonging, hope, and family. It has been a place where healing began.

While today may feel like we're walking through the valley, we know this is not the end of the story. We serve a faithful God who is already making a way.

As one chapter closes, another begins. We are moving forward in purchasing a permanent home for Living Hope—a place where this ministry can continue to grow, serve, and impact lives for generations to come.

Thank you to every person who has walked this journey with us. Thank you, First Baptist Church Wilmington, for opening your doors and allowing countless lives to be changed within these walls.

Please continue to pray for us as we step forward in faith. We believe the best is yet to come.
