SPREAD THE WORD: The Wilmington NABVETS are holding their annual Feed the Homeless and the Hungry FREE event on Saturday, October 17th from 11am - 3pm. Churches, other Community Service Organizations, and everyone else, please let those in need of a meal know about this event.

Medal of Honor recipient Major (Ret.) James Capers Jr. will be coming to Wilmington, North Carolina on October 7th.

Make plans to be at the Cape Fear Museum at 2pm, where Major Capers will be interviewed about his service in Vietnam. Those in attendance will get to hear the full story of his Medal of Honor journey. Afterward, he will hold a meet and greet and autograph signing with his supporters.

This is an exclusive event with limited seating, so an RSVP is required by October 1st to reserve a spot.

Thank you to Frank Roberts, the North Carolina Veterans Council, the New Hanover County Veterans Council, and the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science for making this event possible.

The 10th Annual Cape Fear Purple Heart Dinner took place on August 1, 2026, at the UNCW Burney Center.

The banquet honored veterans for their heroic service to our country. The Purple Heart is awarded to veterans who have been wounded or killed during combat while serving in the U.S. military.

The mission of the Cape Fear Purple Heart Association is to provide a forum for the community to honor Purple Heart recipients and their families, to foster an environment of goodwill among combat wounded veterans, to promote patriotism, and encourage the sharing of recipients’ experiences so future generations will know of the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.
