Troop 5 have served the community of Wilmette, IL since 1922. We are chartered by the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette.

We are very proud to be the home of over 300 Eagle Scouts. As one of the oldest Troops in Illinois, Troop 5 has been proudly chartered by First Presbyterian Church in Wilmette since 1922. During the school year, we regularly meet on most Mondays at 7:30pm-8:45p. At camp or have a weather appropriate outing every month. During the summers, we spend at Camp Makajawan in Pearson, WI. In addition to regular Boy Scout Troop, we have a high-adventure, co-ed focused High School Venturing Crew. While still active within the Troop, the Crew allows some of our more experienced and older Scouts to try more challenging experiences like backpacking at Philmont Scout Reservation, back country trekking in Yellowstone National Park, enjoying canoeing the unspoiled Boundary Waters, cycling/camping across the Midwest or enjoying tropical adventures at Sea Base in Southern, Florida.

A big shout out to our scouts who braved the harsh conditions for an amazing canoe campout! Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Out hazardous weather trained adults ensured everyone was safe, while allowing space for our scouts to overcome hardship, cheer each other on, and lead a troop to an amazing set of memories they wouldn’t have gotten on the sofa.

We are so proud of our youth leaders for showing us how it’s done, and all our scouts for living the scout law: helpful, kind, cheerful and brave. And having a great time doing it!

The PLC has spoken! Our youth leadership met last week and selected our programming for the year, and it is amazing! From canoe camping on a sandbar to learning cold weather camping skills to orienteering at the dunes. From cooking a full Thanksgiving meal on a campout to hiking woods and bluffs. From backpacking through the Rockies to sailing in the ocean, we have an amazing year ahead of us!

Troop 5 had a great time today, representing Scouting America and the NEIC by helping the Evanston Juneteenth celebration, setting up tents, tables and decorations. A big thank you to the organizers for inviting us, and to the scouts for all their work helping Evanston celebrate an important day!

Our newest batch of scouts are getting ready for their first Advancement campout, and our older scouts will be taking the opportunity to shake down their equipment for their next trek.
