Shawnee Mini Trek Recap!
Our crew of 9 scouts and 5 adults just returned from an incredible adventure in Shawnee National Forest! After a 6-hour drive, we arrived at the cabin, our base camp for the trek. Scouts worked together to set up camp, prepare meals, and check gear, ensuring everyone carried the right amount of weight for the trail—a true team effort!
We hit the trail in the rain, but by lunchtime at One Horse Gap, the skies cleared, and we pressed on. Our first night’s camp was perched on the edge of a bluff, overlooking breathtaking forests and rock formations. The next day, we trekked 6 miles through forests, hills, and streams, pushing through to a stunning lakeside campsite at One Horse Gap Lake.
On the final day, we tackled a steep climb out of the valley, then returned to Mr. Lewis’ cabin for conservation work—repairing overgrown trails and giving back to the land that gave us such an amazing experience.
A huge shoutout to our scouts for their teamwork and perseverance! Already looking forward to next year’s adventure!
