🔥 Prescribed Burn Notice: Willow Springs Area 🔥
I just got off the phone with our partners at the U.S. Forest Service, and they have a busy day of fuels management planned for today!
They will be conducting two large prescribed burns just south of Willow Springs. You will likely see and smell a significant amount of smoke in the area today.
Here are the details on the burn units:
* Carmen S2 Unit: Approximately 1,324 acres.
* Rock Pile Unit: Approximately 2,588 acres.
What you need to know:
* Smoke Visibility: Smoke will be visible from town and major roadways. Please don't be alarmed; these are controlled operations to reduce forest fuels and improve wildlife habitat.
* Travel Safety: If you are traveling south of town, please slow down, turn on your headlights, and watch for personnel and equipment near the roadways.
* Monitoring: USFS crews will be on-site throughout the day and night to monitor the lines.
We stay in close contact with the Forest Service during these operations to ensure our community stays safe.
Stay safe out there!

❄️ URGENT WEATHER ADVISORY:

The Willow Springs Fire Department is urging all residents to exercise extreme caution as we navigate this period of severe cold and heavy snowfall. Our priority is your safety, and we ask that you take the following precautions seriously to protect yourself, your family, and our first responders.

⚠️ A Critical Note for Rural Residents
If you live in outlying or rural areas, please be aware that heavy snow and drifting may make certain roads impassable even for our heavy emergency apparatus. In a severe event, response times may be significantly delayed. Please ensure you are extremely prepared to "shelter in place" for at least 72 hours with adequate food, water, medicine, and a backup heat source.

🚨 Fire & Life Safety
* Check Your Smoke Alarms: With heating systems working overtime, the risk of fire increases. Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms today. Ensure they have fresh batteries and are functioning properly. This simple step saves lives.
* Space Heaters: Keep all heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable. Never leave them running while you sleep or unattended.
* Generators: Never run a generator inside a home, garage, or near an open window. Carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly.
* Hydrants: Help us help you. Please clear a 3-foot path around any fire hydrants near your home so we can access them quickly in an emergency.
🚗 Travel Safety
* Stay Off the Roads: If you do not have to be out, please stay home.
* Emergency Kit: If travel is essential, carry blankets, a flashlight, and a full tank of gas.
* Give Space: Give snowplows and emergency vehicles plenty of room to work.
🌡️ Personal Safety
* Limit Exposure: Frostbite can occur in minutes. Wear multiple layers if you must go outside.
* Check on Neighbors: Please call or check on the elderly or vulnerable to ensure they have heat and supplies.
In the event of an emergency, dial 911. We will make every humanly possible effort to reach you, but your preparation is the first line of defense. Stay warm and stay safe, Willow Springs.

A Year in reflection!
From the Hoosier State to the Show-Me State!
In this job, the state lines don't matter as much as the people living within them. Our mission here is the same as it was on day one back in Indiana for me , and our team is dedicated at taking care of our communities and the people in it.
I am so proud of the team we have and the things they have done in this past year!
Each one of them has helped me grow and i hope i have done the same for them!
My goal when I took the Fire Chief job here was simple.
Share the knowledge I have, continue to learn and help everyone be the best they can be with the resources we have!
When you call 911 you expect the best to show up!
That's why we train, and we learn on every call, and continue to strive to be the best!
Because when you call 911 on possibly your worst day we have to be at our best.
Thank You to all the team here at Willow Fire!

Special thanks to all of the agencies that assist us on a regular basis!

Thank You
Chief Logan
