For those that missed the excitement today, you missed a lot.
Breakfast at the american legion first thing this morning.
Our lights and sirens parade down main street at 9am. A lot of firetrucks invaded main street being escorted by willow police dept.
Next stop was booster field.
The honor guard presented the colors while Sam Waldron sang the national anthem.
After that Lisa Williamson Durnell presented a few awards.
Randall Dennis of pomona fire dept received one for 10 years of being president of our county fire chiefs association
Christel Cantrell received an award for 24 years of service in the fire service.
Teresa Vanhorn received a 20 year award for her time in fire service so far.
We had 8 teams competing this year. More than we have had in a long time.
Was great to see the departments together for a friendly competition.
At noon Chris Henson team of firefighter from.the county took on Matt Roberts team of police from west plains and Howell County Sheriff's Office. The firefighters reclaimed the trophy this year. Great job guys.
All said and done in the games Kurtis Walker as captain of our departments team.brought home 2 first place trophies and a second place trophy.
Lori Foster Logan emceed the entire day with updates and music. Great job there also.
Our sponsors this year, which helped with the purchase of the trophies and ribbons was Michael Smith of coulters heating and cooling, Joey Gehlken with his auto shop, Roger Shanks and Becky Shanks with mid ozark insurance, the american legion for feeding the guys breakfast, pizza americana for providing pizza and drinks for the guys competing, Chris Sterner and Jennifer Sterner with kmc creations for dealing with ordering trophies, and making t shirts for people.
City of willow springs and Shane Collins for the barricades for the park for us.
All my crew at the fire dept for helping out wherever and whenever needed.
The departments represented today were west plains fire, Howell County Rural Fire District #1 , willow springs fire, brandsville fire, pomona fire, eleven point rural fire, pumpkin center fire, mountain view fire, and peace Valley fire.

Even though we are not under a burn ban, please refrain from burning. Conditions are dry and no rain for a while. A small fire can lead to a large one in no time.
If you burn, and it gets out of hand remember you are responsible for any damages it may cause.

Last night we did a multi agency drill. We drilled on a cave rescue and extraction of multiple patients, including a suspect taken into custody by law enforcement. (not real just a drill).
The following agencies participated in it with us. Willow Springs Fire Dept, Mountain View Fire Dept, Howell County Rural Fire District #1, Willow springs EMS, and Howell County Sheriff's Office. Approx 40 personnel involved, to see how we could better improve as a group. This May be a first for a lot of us, on a drill this large.
Pics below are of the drill, along with debriefing and food afterwards. The drill itself took about 90 minutes from arriving on scene, to last patient extracted from cave.
Thank you to everyone involved including our patients that agreed to get lost in the cave.

We have emergency led lighting kits at fire station for purchase. Each kit comes with 6 led bulbs with battery backup built in, 6 clips for bulbs with push-button switch, 3 stands to place bulbs on table, and 3 clips for ends of lamps for battery backup.
Simple to use and operate.
Use led bulbs like normal in your house, if electricity goes out, simply unscrew bulb from socket and screw into the included clip base and turn on.
Fully charged bulb will last 6 to 8 hours.
We are selling the kits for $20 for non members and $15 for our paid members.
This is half the price for members than they sell for on Amazon.
We have limited supply so first come first serve.
