The Upper Moreland Historical Commission and the Upper Moreland Historical Association joined forces this summer to organize their first "Historical Scavenger Hunt" at the request of the UMT School District's Superintendent, Dr. Susan Elliot. On August 5th, leadership from all schools and administration worked in teams, racing against the clock and each other to find historical sites in the Community. They were tasked with finding 11 locations and taking group selfies at each. We thank the Upper Moreland School District for asking us to bring this project to fruition. The Commission and Association share a combined goal to make our history interesting, educational, and fun for residents and visitors alike, and we look forward to developing other scavenger hunts - particularly as part of the upcoming 2026 celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
If you or your family/friends would be interested in such an experience, we'd appreciate hearing your thoughts in the comments below.

Thank you to our residents who came out on Saturday to do this “clean up” at the Farmstead ahead of hosting the UMHC’s 3rd annual Historical Haunts. Our free and family-centric event will be held on Sunday, October 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Sincere appreciation to our volunteers for their assistance with fall cleanup at the Farmstead. We extend a special gratitude to the Upper Moreland Parks and Rec crew for their commitment. The morning was productive, with accomplishments including tree planting, debris removal from the main house and carriage house, and brush clearing throughout the property. As the saying goes, 'many hands make the work load light’.

Happy 240th to our County!

Happy 240th Birthday Montgomery County! 🎉

Did you know, land records were so important that the Recorder of Deeds was one of the first officials in place when Montgomery County was carved out of Philadelphia.

Come meet historical inventory owners and find out what you can do to place your home (75 years or older) on the Inventory and\or how to become appointed to the Commission. See you soon!

Your invitations went out later than anticipated, so we have extended the RSVP time to this Wednesday the 8th. We hope current and prospective owners will meet each other - and the Commission and Historical Association members - to share our interests in preserving our local history. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Inventory (your house is at least 75 years old, which is the first qualification), then reach out, as well. Respond to: [email protected].
