Willoughby Police Cadets #6020

Willoughby Police Cadets #6020 Helping cultivate exceptional, well-prepared Cadets for a career in law enforcement Our Cadets range from ages 14-20 and meet three times per month.

The Willoughby Police Cadets #6020 are a non-profit organization whose mission is to cultivate exceptional, well-prepared Cadets for a career in law enforcement. We are accepting donations for scholarships to local police academies for our most qualified candidates. We have developed a comprehensive training program comparable to the core curriculum of Ohio Police Academies. Training is conducted

by state certified instructors so Cadets arrive prepared for success on day one of the academy. Classroom training includes basic policing duties, fundamentals of the criminal justice system, laws of arrest, search and seizure, case law and advanced de-escalation tactics. Cadets learn outside of the classroom during traffic stops, defensive tactics, close quarters training, RAIDER, and on the shooting range. Our program also features presentations and training from the United States Marshall Service, the Western Lake County Emergency Response Team and K9 officers. In addition, Cadets are guided through all the application processes from academy to full time positions. They are coached on how to successfully interview with their prospective departments every step of the way. Cadets can also pursue careers as police dispatchers. The Willoughby Police Department employs 16 dispatchers and provides opportunities for Cadets to sit alongside them. A Cadet dispatcher development program is currently in the works. With your help the Willoughby Police Cadets can continue to develop and grow into Lake County's premier Cadet Program!

It was a great opportunity and chance to learn about the inner workings of the juvenile court system! Thank you to the Lake County Sheriff department, and the Juvenile Court system for allowing us to visit!

The members of Lake County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 43 and Willoughby Police Cadet Post 6020 recently had the opportunity to tour the Lake County Juvenile Justice Center and gain firsthand insight into the juvenile justice system.

During the visit, the Explorers and Cadets learned about the laws, procedures, and responsibilities involved in juvenile court and detention operations. They also had the opportunity to hear from Honorable Judge DeLeone and the dedicated professionals who oversee the various divisions of the Justice Center, providing valuable knowledge about how the juvenile justice system serves our community.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Judge DeLeone and all of the staff who took the time to educate our future law enforcement leaders. Experiences like these provide invaluable learning opportunities and help our youth better understand the important role the justice system plays in protecting and serving the public.
