The Lake County Blue Coats are sending thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, and coworkers of Clay Township Police Sergeant Jacob Roesler who was killed in a traffic crash on October 16, 2026. Roesler was responding to traffic crash when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle. The crash remains under investigation. Jacob was 26 years old, and had served Clay Township (Ottawa County in northwest Ohio) for three years. His tragic passing is a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day when they report for duty. We can never repay him for his service, heroism, and sacrifice.

Today, October 3rd, we remember retired Lieutenant Gerry Lynch. After retiring from an honorable career with the Painesville Police Department, Gerry joined the Mentor Police Department as a part time court officer. Due to his contact with the public, Gerry contracted Covid and passed away. After an investigation, Gerry’s death was deemed to be in the line of duty. He is among the over 900 U. S. law enforcement and corrections officers whose deaths were attributed to this horrible disease.

The City or Painesville and its Police Department really know how to throw a party! The Lake County Blue Coats, joined several local law enforcement departments, Painesville Fire Department, and numerous community agencies, to celebrate National Night Out.
A large crowd, a majority of which were families with children of all ages, attended. A ton of bikes were raffled off, and kids were given other toys and gifts. There was a band and food trucks. So many happy faces on a beautiful summer evening.
Once again, the Blue Coats were able to meet many people and spread the word about the mission of the organization. Thanks to board members John Rogers, Steve Baum, Mark McNaughton, and John Jaros for volunteering to man our tent this evening. Your presence was much appreciated.

Mission BBQ in Mentor invited the Lake County Blue Coats to speak to their team about our organization and what Mission BBQ’s support means to the Blue Coats. President John Rogers and 2nd Vice President John Jaros attended today and were warmly received by the staff. Mission BBQ has been a supporter of the Blue Coats since they opened in Mentor. Much of their support comes from the sale of their souvenir, commemorative beverage cups. We are so very grateful for their generosity and for their mission of support to our local safety forces and our nation’s military. Please keep them in mind when looking for great food and service, while helping them to fulfill their mission. And don’t forget to purchase a cup to benefit the Lake County Blue Coats.

How much do you really know about the mission of the Lake County Blue Coats? Do you ever wonder why we even exist? Do you have questions about becoming a member?
Over the next several days, there will be two opportunities to meet with members of the Blue Coats and have any questions you have answered.
On Saturday, August 1st we will be at the Mentor Safety Forces open house from 11:00am until 2:00pm, at the Civic Center Police and Fire Departments.
On Tuesday, August 4th, see us at the Painesville Night Out at the Painesville Square from 5:30 to 8:00pm.
Both events are family friendly with public safety vehicles on display and a chance to interact with police, fire, and other safety officials.
Stop by our tent and we will answer any questions that you may have. Our main mission, and one we pray that we do not have to fulfill in the future, is to provide financial support to the family of a first responder who gives his life in service to us all. Over 1100 of you follow us on Facebook and we appreciate your interest. We would love you consider joining our organization and supporting us in our mission. We are looking forward to chatting with you.
