Why Seabiscuit Therapeutic Riding Center?

My best friend had a dream in middle school to start a therapeutic riding center. That dream became a reality through a 4-H project and was championed with the incredible support of Ridgewood Ranch and Willits Rotary.

It had a profound impact on all of us involved. After a name change and 33 years later, Seabiscuit Therapeutic Riding Center is still serving our community. It led me to the field of education and inspired many others toward similar vocations. It’s a cause that makes me deeply proud.

It’s a lot of work, but it’s also work that brings so much joy to so many. We may be a small board and group of volunteers, but we have the most beautiful community of big-hearted people who continue to show up for us year after year.

This is one of the biggest reasons I moved home nine years ago. I had never found a community as special as our Lake Mendocino communities.

Last night was another beautiful reminder of why this organization means so much to me. Thank you to everyone who showed up and supported us, whether you were there in person or there in spirit. Your generosity, encouragement, and belief in our mission mean more than you know.

We are incredibly grateful for our Seabiscuit family and this amazing community.

If you’ve been to Claws for a Cause event in the past, you may have been the lucky winner of one of Cody Bartholomew’s handcrafted bars made of reclaimed lumber from historic Ridgewood Ranch.

Made from reclaimed materials from the historic bathhouse built in 1906 and posts from the old blacksmith shop on the ranch, Cody and Philip Edholm worked on the project together this year.

You’ll have to be here Saturday to see it, because the finishing touches are happening as we speak. 😉
