Celebrate National Birding Day on Saturday, April 4, with a family-friendly hike at Ridley Creek State Park.

Bring your binoculars and join DCNR's Park Naturalist for a fun morning hike to search for spring migrants along back trails. Beginners and families are welcome to share your good ears and eyes to help spot our avian friends as they prepare for migration and breeding season. Meet at the mansion's upper parking lot with good walking shoes, water, and your favorite snacks to carry. Registration not required.

Some good news for open space and outdoor recreation in Edgmont Township!

On Saturday, the Pennsylvania Game Commission approved a land swap that begins a process that could lead to the preservation of the 176.8-acre Sleighton Farm tract in Edgmont Township as Delaware County’s first State Game Land.

The land swap was negotiated between a private entity and the Game Commission. Once the Township became aware of the proposal, Township staff and I have been in regular communication with the Game Commission and State Rep. Lisa Borowski to gather information and better understand how this proposal may affect Edgmont residents and nearby neighbors.

If the Game Commission proceeds, Sleighton Farm would be preserved as public open space. A representative from the Game Commission has indicated that, given the parcel’s size and proximity to residential areas, hunting would be limited to archery only. Vacant buildings would be removed following a historic resources survey, and the land would be restored to natural grassland and forest habitat to support wildlife.

I will be working with my fellow Supervisors and Rep. Borowski to schedule a town hall meeting with the Game Commission as soon as possible. This meeting will give residents an opportunity to hear directly from the Game Commission, ask questions, and share feedback. Once scheduled, details will be shared here and through appropriate Township channels.
