Service dog fact: Training goes beyond learning commands. Positive experiences with new surfaces, sounds, and spaces help build the confidence a service dog needs to navigate everyday life alongside their handler.

Even a tunnel can be a small step toward a big future! ✨

Service work requires a unique combination of temperament, focus, trainability, and the ability to remain calm and confident in a variety of environments. From navigating distractions to reliably performing disability-related tasks, every part of a service dog’s training matters.

And just as important as training is the match. ❤️ The goal is to create a partnership where the dog’s strengths and training align with the individual needs of their recipient.

At Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, each partnership is thoughtfully developed with individualized training and ongoing support.

Each year, Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs recognizes a Service Dog who goes beyond their training, demonstrating extraordinary awareness, initiative, and action in a critical moment.

In 2021, that hero was Foxy.

One night, Craig, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, had taken medication that caused him to fall into a deep sleep. While he slept, a fire broke out in the apartment building.

The alarms sounded. Sirens arrived. But Craig didn't wake up.

𝗙𝗼𝘅𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱.

Realizing something was wrong, Foxy climbed onto Craig's chest, jumping up and down and anxiously licking his face until he finally woke.

As Craig became more alert, he heard the fire alarm. He grabbed Foxy's vest, and together they made their way outside to safety. It was only then that he saw the bright orange glow of the fire coming from one of the apartment windows.

Responding to a fire wasn't something Foxy had been specifically trained to do. She recognized the danger and took extraordinary action to protect her person.

For Craig, Foxy had already transformed everyday life.

“𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙁𝙤𝙭𝙮 𝙗𝙮 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚, 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙣𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣.”

But that night, she became his hero in an entirely unexpected way.

Help us celebrate Foxy and the extraordinary partnership between Service Dogs and the people they serve. ❤️

And it starts. :-) For any activities at the FL campus, please call to confirm it is still scheduled. Thank you. We are already preparing. Better to be safe than sorry. We are expecting mostly rain, wind and possible flooding. Stay dry my friends.

Latest Tuesday 06z models on tropicaltidbits.com. This is where it gets tricky. I am a model guy. I don't try and outsmart them. When they stay consistent and agree you start to believe. These particular models have been good over the years predicting intensity. Meet in the middle maybe? But couple are strong yes. Hurricane Isaias is a possibility to watch for heading into the weekend. Gulf waters are warm and above 'average'. Shear is ahead yes. But what it does before it reaches that means a lot. Something to watch for sure. NHC up to 90% this AM. Hurricane Hunters head in today. Remember most bigger impacts are east of center. More shear more impacts east. www.spaghettimodels.com

You can’t always see what someone is carrying. 💙

Mental illness doesn’t have a “look.” The person smiling beside you, showing up for work, caring for their family, or making everyone else laugh may be facing challenges you know nothing about.

During Mental Illness Awareness Week, we’re reminding everyone of something simple but powerful: lead with kindness, have patience, and listen without judgment.

At Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, we see firsthand how meaningful the right support can be. Our individually trained medical service dogs help recipients navigate challenges that may not always be visible, helping them experience greater confidence and independence in their daily lives.

Not every struggle can be seen. But every person deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with compassion. 💙
