Here's a series of links and a few pictures that tell some of the story of Navy Week Burlington 2026. Too many different venues from the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum to Norwich University, the State House, VFW Post 792 in Montpelier, the Burlington Waterfront, to St. Albans American Legion Green Mountain Post #1 to include them all.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott posted the following:

I’ve proclaimed this week as Navy Week here in Vermont, as we’re one of just 12 communities nationwide selected to host.
Vermonters take great pride in supporting the fast-attack submarines, the USS Vermont and USS Montpelier, and the Military Sealift Command’s fast expeditionary transport ship, USNS Burlington.
We’re proud to welcome the Navy to Vermont and are grateful for all the sailors who have stepped up to serve our country.

Well done Governor Scott, thanks for your continued support!

Navy Week in Burlington kicked off on Monday, and Tuesday's itinerary included an exchange between Captains of the USNS Burlington and the USS Constitution, and Commander of the USS Montpelier along with a local Sailor. The featured guests at the event at the American Legion Green Mountain Post #1 in St. Albans were members of the Perry Family, Vermont's first family of the Navy with over 170 years of service to the military, all in the Navy, and almost all in submarines. Check out the local coverage!

Capt. Albert Perry and his family were celebrated in Saint Albans during Navy Week for their remarkable military service, spanning nearly 180 years.

Our enterprising FRG has embarked on a series of fundraising offerings to support their 'Ohana. They begin with a coffee cup and rumor has it sweat pants won't be too far behind. The cup orders can be placed until September 7th. Save the link, and check back from time to time to see what the FRG ladies are selling. Well done FRG!

Navy Week Burlington August 24-30 is coming together quite nicely. As you all know, with the USS VERMONT deployed, our crew members couldn't take part in the event. The CO's and Sailors from the USS Montpelier and USNS Burlington will be on hand to represent the Navy. More day by day details are available now at

https://outreach.navy.mil/Navy-Weeks/Burlington-2026/

We'll have VSG members, Montpelier Committee members and Sub Vets participating in a briefing at the American Legion Green Mountain Post 1 in St. Albans given by the CO of the USS Montpelier CDR Mike Hall and USNS Burlington Captain Doug Casavant on Tuesday of next week at 1400. Featured guests are the Perry Family (all Naval Officers) for a meet and greet with the Sailors and the event is open to the public.

We expect to be able to remedy the lack of presence of Big Sugar crew members with a Namesake Visit to Vermont at some point shortly after their return from Deployment. We're looking forward to working with them on the itinerary when we have formal dates.

Another interesting article just popped up. Nice to see the press coverage of the Navy knows a photogenic submarine when they see it! Not directly relevant to the storyline, but Big Sugar always looking sharp.

We're sure many of you have seen these images, and Big Sugar is no stranger to Yokosuka, but the Navy just officially released the one below along with the following caption:

USS Vermont arrives in Yokosuka
Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Vermont (SSN 792) transits Tokyo Bay, July 24, 2026. Vermont, homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and assigned to Submarine Squadron 1, is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Hey, we're back in business with the first new coin we've had access to from Big Sugar in quite a while. This one is "straight outta the Ward Room" and our purchase of 50 went towards their coffee fund. The face of the coin is Champy surfacing with Hawaii in the background, the back with the aforementioned Green Mountain Boys battle flag on the outline of Vermont and GREEN MOUNTAIN STRONG with officer's dolphins. We hope to be allowed to sell them during Burlington's Navy Week, and we expect VSG members, sub vets, and supporters will be glad to add this one to their USS VERMONT SSN 792 collection. $20 plus shipping and payment can be made on the Donate or Pay page at ussvermont.org . Send your request and mailing address to [email protected] Fulfillment won't begin until mid-August as the shipper will be travelling.
