Well, DVIDS finally posted, so that makes this post sanctioned by the US Navy. There might be a couple faces that some of you recognize! No surprise they were back at Yokosuka, the warships folks put images out, but sufficient time has passed that DVIDS released the following. Go Big Sugar, we're hoping you're nearing that magical Half-Way Night, but never, by design, know for sure.

We're glad to see improved OPSEC for Big Sugar's deployment, no images have appeared on social media so far. DVIDS released the following image of two USS VERMONT Crew members at work during the SMP almost a year ago. Who knows, someone might recognize the ink!

GARDEN ISLAND, HMAS Stirling, Western Australia, Australia (Nov. 14, 2025) - Sailors from the USS Vermont (SSN 792) prepare to open Main Ballast Tank 3’s access hatch after a bilateral team of Australian and U.S. Navy divers placed a patch with an eductor connection on the hull. This eductor facilitated dewatering of the tank, allowing access for the maintenance team. After hatch removal, the crew fully vented the space and installed emergency dewatering pumps. The maintenance period showcased Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility’s ability to conduct maintenance in Western Australia and its training of Australian maintainers to support the establishment of Submarine Rotational Force – West as early as 2027 as part of AUKUS Pillar I, the trilateral security agreement between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The AUKUS I&A Program Office is the U.S. Navy office responsible for executing the trilateral partnership to assist Australia in acquiring conventionally armed, nuclear-powered attack submarines at the earliest possible date while setting the highest nuclear stewardship standards and continuing to maintain the highest nonproliferation standard.

C'mon 1945 A&D, tell us something we don't know. Go Big Sugar, first of the Block IV submarines! Add the outstanding Crews we've had, and the story is even VERMONT Stronger.

The Navy's Block IV Virginia-class attack submarines bring quieter hulls, a lockout chamber for nine to 12 Navy SEALs, and a dozen Tomahawk tubes. USS Idaho, commissioned in April 2026, is the newest Block IV, and USS Arkansas and USS Utah are due in 2028 and 2027.

Finally, another article with a previously unseen picture of Big Sugar, albeit from their SMP at HMAS Stirling at the end of 2025.
The image captured workers installing the racetrack on the sail of the USS VERMONT during their highly successful maintenance period in Western Australia. OPSEC with our allies seems to have strengthened during the current deployment as our Google crawler hasn't found any new images of Big Sugar or her crew.

We did encourage RDML Brett Mietus, the flag officer for the Burlington Navy Week and Commander of Joint Region Marianas to reach out to the Command of the VERMONT should it make a reappearance at his HQ in Guam during this deployment so they could compare notes from their recent trips to the Green Mountain State. Would be great if it happened!

We're lucky to have had a series of amazing Ombudsmen supporting our Crew and Families. None finer than our current one, Beth. She's always there to resolve one-off situations; like when a Sailor calls the VSG because our site has a number on it and says he's supposed to report to the VERMONT but doesn't know where it is. We just connect him with Beth, welcome him to the USS VERMONT, and thank him for his service. Our Ombudsman does the real work of vetting the situation and resolving the problem. We're glad to add our thanks for her service as well!

Vermonters take great pride in supporting the fast-attack submarines, the USS Vermont and USS Montpelier, and the Military Sealift Command’s fast expeditionary transport ship, USNS Burlington.
We’re proud to welcome the Navy to Vermont and are grateful for all the sailors who have stepped up to serve our country.

Navy Week in Burlington kicked off on Monday, and Tuesday's itinerary included an exchange between Captains of the USNS Burlington and the USS Constitution, and Commander of the USS Montpelier along with a local Sailor. The featured guests at the event at the American Legion Green Mountain Post #1 in St. Albans were members of the Perry Family, Vermont's first family of the Navy with over 170 years of service to the military, all in the Navy, and almost all in submarines. Check out the local coverage!

Capt. Albert Perry and his family were celebrated in Saint Albans during Navy Week for their remarkable military service, spanning nearly 180 years.
