Your Action Needed to Fix WEP Now

On 4 p.m. CT Monday, Dec 5, ATPE Senior Lobbyist Monty Exter will join Tim Lee of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) for a live event on YouTube and Facebook discussing the WEP reform push! Be sure to tune in!

ATPE, along with TRTA, is calling for action on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP)! Time is running out. Congressman Richard Neal (D-Mass), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, needs to act before the current congressional term ends!

ATPE members, we need your help! We are asking you, your fellow educators, and any retired educators you know to call Congressman Neal’s office at (202) 225-5601 and ask for his commitment to get a deal done and pass a WEP solution before Congress adjourns for the year!

Call and email Congressman Richard Neal!
Phone: (202) 225-5601
Email: [email protected]
Message: The time is now to commit to passing a WEP solution before Congress adjourns this year! As Chairman of Ways and Means, you are critical for getting a bipartisan deal done.

Call and email Texas congressional members on the House Ways and Means Committee!
Congressman Kevin Brady
Phone: (202) 225-4901
Email: [email protected]
Message: As the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee, continue to work with Neal to get a bipartisan deal passed this Congress before time runs out.

Congressman Jody Arrington
Phone: (202) 225-4005
Email: [email protected]
Message: As a Republican member of the House Ways and Means Committee, ask leadership to get a bipartisan deal done on WEP this Congress.

Congressman Lloyd Doggett
Phone: (202) 225-4865
Email: [email protected]

From ATPE Teach the Vote's Week in Review:
This weekend is the time to get prepared and make a plan to vote! Use ATPE’s election resources on Teach the Vote, including candidates’ profiles, survey responses, and voting records, to help you choose which candidates will support you and your students at school before you support them at the polls! https://teachthevote.atpe.org/

Once you have researched the candidates on Teach the Vote, we encourage you to hop over to Vote411.org, hosted by our good friends, the League of Women Voters, where you can build and print out your customized ballot to take with you to the polls. Remember: you cannot use your cell phone inside the polling place! https://www.vote411.org/

ATPE members are encouraged to participate in Educator Voting Day, Thursday, Oct. 27. Find election resources created specifically for educators on the website for the Texas Educators Vote coalition, of which ATPE is a founding member. https://texaseducatorsvote.com/key-resources/

Read our official positions on education issues as written by ATPE members and adopted annually by our House of Delegates.
