Scouting America’s International Commissioner, Lou Paulson, would like to announce that Praveen Karunaratne (Troop 457, Great Falls Council) and Charles Welch (Troop 76, Connecticut Yankee Council) were chosen to receive the 2025 Messengers of Peace Distinguished Project Award. 💜🕊️

Praveen was selected for his work connecting two continents in an effort to reduce inequalities through action. Through his organization and leadership, Scouts in Troop 457 in Williamsville, NY assembled care packages to be brought to orphans in Sri Lanka. Praveen then traveled to Sri Lanka with the care packages, where he organized efforts with three Sri Lankan Boy Scout Troops and one Girl Guide unit to make repairs and paint the Sri Lankan orphanage. The project exemplifies the spirit of the Messengers of Peace initiative, bringing together over 75 volunteers in New York and Sri Lanka to achieve remarkable outcomes.

Scouting America Military Family Fee Waiver

Effective June 1, 2026, Scouting America is expanding access to Scouting for military-connected youth by waiving the $85 national youth registration fee for eligible families. This program applies to youth members only and is available for both new and renewing online registrations. The initiative is funded nationally through philanthropic efforts.

Eligible families include those with current service in the Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. The waiver covers only the national youth registration fee, reducing the $85 cost to $0 after the required verification and discount code process is completed. Local council fees, unit dues, optional add-ons such as Scout Life magazine, and processing fees may still apply.

To receive the waiver, families should select “Get Military Discount Code” during the online registration process, complete the verification steps, receive the verification code, and enter it at checkout. Once the code is applied, the national registration fee is reduced to $0.

Scouting America notes that the $85 fee may initially appear during checkout but will be removed after the verification code is entered. The waiver is available only for online registrations.

Registration is now open for the 2026 First Aid Rally!

The GFC First Aid Rally is an interactive and competitive event where Scout patrols navigate various stations to diagnose and treat simulated injuries. Designed to test emergency response under pressure, teams demonstrate skills like CPR, splinting, and bleeding control, receiving immediate feedback from judges.

Scouts BSA, Webelos, AOL Scouts, parents and registered leaders are invited to attend. Troops & packs are encouraged to invite non-scouting families with Scout-aged children to attend.

Where: Camp Scouthaven
When: Saturday, March 7th, 2026
Cost: $10 per Scout or adult

The deadline to register is Friday, February 27th, 2026. Registration will be limited to the first 200 Scouts and adults.
