Dear Community Members,
We are writing to share that the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant, the primary source of funding for Champions for a Drug-Free Grant County, will conclude on September 29, 2026. At that time, the coalition will officially dissolve operations.
Through our work alongside many dedicated community partners, we have not only met the original goals of the grant - we have exceeded them. Over the last ten years, youth substance use among middle and high school students has consistently declined. According to the Kentucky Incentives for Prevention (KIP) Survey, self-reported past 30-day use among youth decreased from 2014 to 2024 as follows:
🎉Alcohol use decreased from 12.7% to 7% among middle school students and from 34.2% to 12.3% among high school students.
🎉Tobacco use decreased from 19.8% to 1.0% among middle school students and from 37.2% to 3.5% among high school students.
🎉 Ma*****na use decreased from 4.6% to 2.5% among middle school students and from 17.6% to 6.5% among high school students.
🎉Prescription drug use decreased from 2.9% to 1.0% among middle school students and from 4.5% to 2.0% among high school students.
We are confident that these low rates of youth substance use in Grant County will continue to remain steady.
During this final year of the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant, our focus has been on ensuring that the school-based and community-based programs we support can continue beyond the life of the grant. We have worked closely with community partners in Grant County and across the Northern Kentucky region to identify future program leadership, determine ongoing financial and volunteer support needs, and connect organizations with potential sources of support. We have also begun distributing program assets and supplies to help ensure a smooth transition of program management.
In the final months of the grant, we will continue to responsibly conclude organizational affairs, fulfill remaining obligations, and ensure that all legal and financial requirements are completed appropriately.
It has been our privilege to serve this community. Although this chapter is coming to a close, we are proud of the impact we created together and are hopeful that the relationships built and investments made through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Grant will continue to inspire positive change in our community.
Sincerely,
Champions for a Drug-Free Grant County
