Michigan Flyways Retriever Club

Michigan Flyways Retriever Club The Michigan Flyways Retriever Club was founded in 2007 to encourage & promote the education of handlers and their dogs in the sport of hunting retrievers.

The First “unofficial” meeting of the Michigan Flyways Retriever Club (MFWRC) was held in November of 2006 in the living room of one of the founding members. The dream was to have a club to fill a number of voids in the Michigan “retriever” community. At that time, Michigan had only three AKC clubs that were actively putting on Hunt Tests – Fort Detroit Golden Retriever Club, Marshbanks Golden Ret

riever Club and Wolverine Field Trial Club … a grand total of three Hunt Tests per year. For working people, having to travel to Ohio, Indiana and Illinois (among others) to be able to get their retriever(s) through a title (especially Masters) could seem like a daunting goal. Education and training sessions were also few and far between. The group wanted to see more people (especially the young) get exposed and involved in the sport and wanted to see this club be in the position to offer two different Hunt Tests per year, thus bring the total of Michigan Hunt Tests (at that time) up to 5. They also had a vision of getting more Hunt Test judges from Michigan. The first formal meeting of MFWRC was held in February 2007. The first Sanctioned AKC Hunt Test was in May of 2009 on Darrin Morman’s property in Freeland Michigan. MFWRC’s first official Licensed AKC Hunt Test was held at Omega Farms in Williamston Michigan in September of that same year. MFWRC held two Hunt Tests in 2010. In the past 2 years, MFWRC has purchased and furnished an equipment trailer, grown membership, held seminars from pros in the field of retriever training, sponsored presentations from veterinarians and held training sessions. MFWRC continues to strive to create and achieve new goals and events each year; offering something of interest to the retriever enthusiast community of Michigan. Michigan Flyways Retriever Club is a member of the Master National Retriever Club.

Hello Membership,
Our July Hunt Test is quickly approaching, only 3 weeks out! Our Master test is full with a handful of dogs on the waitlist. We already have 2 workers whom we are paying it would be nice not to have to pay 2-3 others to work at our test. Reminder, we lost a few thousand dollars at the May test, we barely broke even at the June test, it would be wonderful to make money at this test and or make up for our losses!! Please reach out to ME, Heidi Wszolek, if you are interested in working. [email protected]
