The Sound That Stays The Sound That Stays is a music festival rooted in the celebration of loved ones lost too soon, raising funds for music education in central Pennsylvania.

Come for the music. Stay for the people. Leave with something that lasts. Introducing The Sound That Stays, a music festival rooted in the celebration of loved ones lost too soon, raising funds for music education in the local community. ​​​​

Following Max Engle’s passing in 2023, our family witnessed an outpouring of love & support from this community. We wanted to create a space where others could feel that same connection, a space where music becomes medicine, and memories fuel us. ​With a lineup rooted in folk, Americana, outlaw country, bluegrass, and blues — some of Max’s favorite sounds — The Sound That Stays is about storytelling, connection, and honoring what matters.​

To every musician, volunteer, vendor, sponsor, and person who showed up for The Sound That Stays, you made October 3rd a day we'll never forget.

The music. The dancing. The laughter. The familiar faces and new friendships. Every moment was a reminder of why we come together.

What started as a way to honor and remember Max continues to grow into something so special: a day filled with music, community, and purpose.

And thanks to all of you, we raised enough to continue our mission of making music education more accessible in our community. 🤘

The schedule is here! Start making your plans for Saturday — we’ve got more than nine hours of music (plus a banjo lesson! 🪕) waiting for you.

Come early. Stay late. Or come and go throughout the day — just make sure you’re there for the artists you don’t want to miss. 👀
And remember, there’s plenty happening beyond the stage, too: craft vendors, basket raffles, kids’ activities, food, drinks and more.

The Sound That Stays was born from the love and loss of Max Engle — and from the way music can keep us connected to the people we carry with us.

For Maitland’s Josh and Alex Hines, that connection is family. They’re Max’s cousins, and they’ve been deeply tied to this festival and its meaning from the start.

On October 3, they’ll take the stage with some of your Maitland favorites and new music we can’t wait for you to hear.
