๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ D-Day โ€“ June 6, 1944 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today we pause to remember the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and determination of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy.

In the early hours of June 6, 1944, thousands of young men faced overwhelming odds as they crossed the English Channel and landed on the shores of France. Many would never return home, but their bravery helped turn the tide of World War II and secured the freedoms we enjoy today.

As we reflect on the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, let us honor those who answered their nation's call, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and express our gratitude to the veterans whose courage changed the course of history.

"These were ordinary men who did extraordinary things."

May we never forget their sacrifice, their service, and the price of liberty.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend โ€” it is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the courage of those who gave everything to protect it.

At the Lycoming County Veterans Memorial Park, we stand in remembrance of all who never returned home, and we honor the families who carry their memory forward each and every day.

May we never forget their sacrifice, their service, and their devotion to this country.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to all who joined us in remembrance, including our veterans, Gold Star families, volunteers, community leaders, and supporters who continue to help preserve the meaning and purpose of this sacred day.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Despite the cold temperatures and steady rain, our Memorial Service this morning was a meaningful and heartfelt tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who braved the weather to attend and help honor our fallen heroes. Your presence and support truly meant a great deal.

A very special thank you goes out to the many dedicated volunteers who helped with setup and breakdown before and after the ceremony. Events like this are only possible because of your hard work and commitment.

We also want to thank all of the VIPs, guest speakers, veterans organizations, and community leaders who attended this morningโ€™s service and helped make the ceremony so special.

One of the highlights of the morning was Congressman Dan Meuser presenting a United States flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol to Mayor Derek Slaughter. Mayor Slaughter determined that the most appropriate place for the flag to fly would be at the Lycoming County Veterans Memorial Park, where it will serve as a lasting symbol of honor, remembrance, and patriotism.

Finally, thank you to videographer John Nevill, Jr. for recording the ceremony so that those who were unable to attend could still experience and reflect on this important tribute.

Todayโ€™s weather may have been cold and wet, but the spirit of remembrance, patriotism, and community was stronger than ever.

Thank you all for helping us honor our nationโ€™s heroes. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ This Saturday, visitors to the Lycoming County Veterans Memorial Park will have a rare opportunity to see and experience an actual Navy A-6E Intruder ejection seat on display before and after our Memorial Day Service.

Guests will be able to get up close to this incredible piece of aviation history โ€” and even sit in the seat for photos and a hands-on experience.

The ejection seat comes from a Navy A-6E Intruder aircraft like โ€œWarhorse 503,โ€ which is proudly displayed at the park.

Out of respect for the solemn nature of the Memorial Day Service, the ejection seat display will be secured during the service itself so that proper honor and respect can be shown to those we gather to remember.

We invite everyone to arrive early, explore the display, attend the service, and return afterward for another opportunity to view this unique piece of naval aviation history. โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Several volunteers from Lycoming Engines were at the park May 9th in the rain to help beuatify the park for the Memorial Day Service. They worked on mulching around all the trees, planting flowers, installing blank bricks in the new walk additions as well as cleaning the monuments. Tyrone Lauer of Muncy Hardwoods, Inc provided his water tank and pressure washer. Thank you to John Markley, Rachel Potter and Shawn Reams of the Memorial Park Commission who led the charge and Brad Regester of Williamsport Base Submarine Veterans, Inc for taking care of the trees. He's a retired Forester so we dubbed him the "Tree Whisperer". Bravo Zulu to all those who helped. The park is what it is today because of the outstanding community support we receive.
