Safe Haven Law: allows parents to legally and anonymously surrender unharmed newborns to designated professionals such as hospital staff, police officers, or EMS responders without the fear of criminal prosecution of abandonment.
In March of 2025, a sweet babe was surrendered anonymously into the Safe Haven receiving area of Geisinger Medical Center in Bloomsburg. Within hours, our friend and Dwell coworker, Lynn Raye Warwick, was called by CYS to immediately go to the hospital and begin loving on this surrendered babe.
This past weekend, Maeve Katherine was legally adopted. The love and support that surrounds Maeve is difficult to put into words. So many people have been pulling for her, praying for her, loving her, and awaiting this day of legal permanency.
Our heart aches for her first mother. A woman who most likely gave birth in less than ideal circumstances, scared, hopeless, and unsupported. And then had to recover from the trauma of birth in heartbreak. And yet she did the bravest and most sacrificial thing. She chose life for her daughter even though she knew she would be risking never seeing her again. We cannot fathom the depths of despair. Yet today we rejoice in the life of Maeve. We rejoice for family. We rejoice for forever family. We rejoice for we know Gods hand is upon darling Maeve.
