The Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited Presents “How Do Effective Fly Patterns Really Compare to What Trout Eat”

We tie a fly to our leader and proceed to fish and that’s ok. But have you ever been curious enough to wonder how our flies compare to what Trout actually eat, or what may trigger a Trout to take our fly? We’ll dive into comparisons between natural insects and imitations, and also look at some flies that may not appear anything like what a Trout might actually accept as part of its daily diet.
All are invited to attend a presentation by local fly fisherman, Dave Rothrock. In addition to being a master fly fisherman and fly tier, Dave has also spent time as a fishing guide, an author, a competitive fly caster, and has traveled both domestically and internationally to fly fish.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church, 807 W. 4th Street, Williamsport. Parking and entrance to the Church meeting room is at the rear of the building with access off of Campbell Street.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, please see our website at https://susquehannatu.com/.

Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD) Mitigation to be Featured at Trout Unlimited Susquehanna Chapter October Meeting

The public is invited to a meeting of the Trout Unlimited Susquehanna Chapter featuring Brian Cooper, Project Manager for Trout Unlimited’s PA AMD Program, as well as Tom Clark, Project Manager for the AMD Program at Kleinfelder Engineering in State College. AMD is one of the two leading causes of stream impairment in PA, with over 5,500 miles of AMD-impaired waterways in the State. Mr. Cooper will discuss TU managed passive treatment systems in Two-Mile Creek (Kettle Creek Watershed), Potts Run (Clearfield Creek Watershed), as well as work being done to restore Beech Creek, a large, cold-water watershed in Centre and Clinton counties. He will also touch on recovery of the West Branch Susquehanna River, as well as TU’s AMD Technical Assistance Program that provides free biological, chemical, and engineering support to conservation districts, nonprofits and government entities to address AMD impairment. Mr. Clark will discuss the re-design of two passive treatment systems currently treating AMD discharges into the headwaters of Loyalsock Creek and how these new systems will treat a much higher percentage of each discharge, as well as limit thermal pollution of the treated water that flows into Loyalsock Creek.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 pm at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church, 807 W. 4th Street, in Williamsport. Parking and entrance to the Church is at the rear of the building with access off of Campbell Street.
