The Williamsport-Washington Township Public Library is a 4-Star, 100 year old library located in Williamsport, Indiana. Our first library board was established in 1915, and the Carnegie Library officially opened on Fall Street in 1917. It’s Official: California Establishes Dolly Parton Day! ✨

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation establishing September 25 as an annual Dolly Parton Day in honor of the legendary singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist.

The date was chosen as a playful tribute to Dolly’s beloved song “9 to 5.” Written numerically in the American date format, September 25 becomes 9-25, or “9-2-5.”

Senate Bill 931 was introduced by California Senators Shannon Grove and John Laird. Announcing the new law, Governor Newsom said the day would serve as an annual reminder to live as Dolly did, with joy, grace and plenty of heart.

Dolly passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Across her remarkable six-decade career, she sold more than 100 million records worldwide and created classics including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5.”

Her legacy reached far beyond music. Dolly’s Imagination Library has distributed more than 300 million books to children around the world, while her other charitable work supported disaster relief, medical research and marginalized communities.

Every September 25, California will now celebrate Dolly’s music, generosity, kindness and the extraordinary legacy she shared with the world.
