👏 THANK YOU to the University Habitat for Humanity chapter for the generous donation of new power tools to Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity.

🔨 From left are Michael Evanick, Dominic Viozzi, Ella Miller and Mason Helms of the Bucknell University campus chapter with the tools the chapter provided to Gregory Neal, construction supervisor at the GLHFH.

🏡 The student-led chapter supports Habitat for Humanity’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope through weekly construction shifts, campus fundraising, educational programming and annual spring break service trips.

💚 The tools were selected from a wish list developed by Neal to address critical needs on active build sites. Bucknell students regularly participate on GLHFH construction sites during the fall and spring semesters. 🩵

It's been a while since we've shared how the Habitat model works.

Here’s a look at how our Path to Homeownership program turns community support into affordable homeownership for local families:

1️⃣Funds are raised to build a home through donors, sponsors, grants, partnerships and ReStore proceeds
2️⃣Habitat and committee volunteers select a family for the Path to Homeownership program through an extensive application process
3️⃣Volunteers and the selected partner families help build the home alongside and under the guidance of our professional construction crew.
4️⃣Our favorite part: the homeowner purchases the home and with an affordable mortgage and down payment
5️⃣Mortgage payments are reinvested into the Path to Homeownership program, helping us build more homes for local families.

This program works because partner families contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity," save toward a down payment and participate in educational classes covering homeownership, financial literacy, budgeting and more.

They work on their homes - and on the homes of other partner families - gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become successful first-time homeowners.

🏠 For billions of people, having a safe, secure and adequate place to call home remains out of reach.

Today is , a time when the United Nations-Habitat focuses on Adequate Housing for All and the action needed to make it a reality.

Adequate housing is more than a roof over our heads. It is a foundation for dignity, security, opportunity and sustainable development.

Did you know? Habitat homeowners don’t receive homes for free - they partner with Habitat, contribute hundreds of volunteer hours and purchase their homes with affordable mortgages. 🏠

Their mortgage payments are then reinvested to help fund future home builds. This cycle is intended to create a sustainable path to homeownership, strengthen communities and help more families achieve the stability that comes with having a safe, affordable home. 🤝🔄
