THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP:

On Saturday, January 17, 2026, Ford’s Colony residents, Scouts from three local Troops, members of the Green Team and Landscape Design Subcommittee, and Management Agent and State of Virginia staff partnered to plant native trees and shrubs in two important areas within the neighborhood - St. Andrews at the Blackheath Bridge and Williamsburg West. Perhaps you spotted the large group when you drove by that Saturday morning or heard of the activity and were curious about what was happening.

Here is a helpful resource concerning invasive plants from Blue Ridge PRISM.

Blue Ridge PRISM Recommendations:

Now is the time to identify this shrub because the stems are highly visible.

Use the Wineberry Fact Sheet under invasive shrubs to identify wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) in the landscape.

Pull up canes by the root in winter or early spring when the soil is moist.

The FC Green Team September 17th Kick-Off meeting was a huge success, with 65 in attendance, including several HOA Board Members, several Committee Chairs and the Management Agent.

We showed a Doug Tallamy film "What's the Rush?," which generated good discussion and interest going forward.

We also gave away native plants that grew from our Native Habitat Garden by Chisel Run Pond.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting on October 15th at the S&T!

Biodiversity is declining, but you can help. Small changes in your yard can have a huge impact. By creating native habitat, you can help restore nature while experiencing the joy and fulfillment of connecting with the world around you. Learn simple, effective ways to create habitat and support wildlife.

After the 45-min video, stick around for an in-person discussion within our subgroups: Conservation, Recycling, and Energy to map out our objectives and projects for the year.
