In the past year, artificial intelligence, or AI, has taken the world by storm, and ChatGPT has become a household name.

Research shows that seeing connection to the real world is critical for engaging kids in STEM fields, such as Computer Science, Data Science, and AI.

It is important for everyone to learn about AI so that it is not just a "black box," or (as we call it in our book) a Magic Box.

During the pandemic, Dr. Rachel Chung, Business Analytics professor who teaches AI at College of William & Mary, created the Data Scientist Junior curriculum for kids with her sister Peggy Chung, a data scientist, and former student Rani Banjarian, a data scientist and high school math teacher.

AI is full of buzzwords. We need an easier way to explain it so everyone, grownups or kids, can understand and use it safely. That’s why she decided to write this book with her Data Scientist Junior team.

AI the Magic Box is an activity book to help middle schoolers understand key concepts of AI using an engaging story that every child can relate to. Big words like machine learning and AI models will become so much easier to understand, after the reader completes our step-by-step activities.

With our book, young readers will discover the essence of classification algorithms by following the story of Connor and Atena trying to adopt a new puppy. The book presents the three steps of what we define as the "AI Process," and each section ends with a problem set where students can practice the skills they have just learned from that section.

With fun and engaging visuals that your beloved children will enjoy, our activity book will make learning about AI colorful and fun! It will give the next generation of AI natives the knowledge and skills to use, evaluate, and question AI in their everyday lives!
