Check out this event coming up on Sunday in Amana!

Are you getting into birdwatching? Do you enjoy wildlife photography? Are you a novice hunter looking to improve your waterfowl identification?

Iowa DNR & Johnson County Conservation are hosting a pop-up Waterfowl Watching class on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 4:30pm in Middle Amana, Iowa. Join us to experience the magic of the spring waterfowl migration. Participants will spend the evening in a blind watching ducks and geese recharge on a local wetland. Our staff will help you spot the differences between waterfowl species and share tips and tricks for quick identification when birds are in flight.

This event is free and open to all ages, but please register so we have enough blind space for everyone. Register here: http://license.gooutdoorsiowa.com/Event/ViewEvent.aspx?id=3828

Are you looking for an AWESOME summer camp opportunity in our region!? There are still seats available in the Mt. Vernon(going into 3rd-5th grade) and Palo(5th-8th grade) Take it Outside State Park camps!

Take It Outside State Park Camps are immersive summer adventures where campers explore some of the most amazing places in Iowa, experience hands-on natural resources education and build outdoor skills that can last a lifetime. (And also burn a LOT of energy. You’re welcome.)

Level 1 Camps are available for students going into third, fourth or fifth grades this fall, while Level 2 camps serve incoming fifth through eighth graders.

Eight state parks will host camps this summer, but some are already full! Don't miss out before the others fill, too!

Check our camps webpage for details on camp levels, availability and locations: https://www.iowadnr.gov/programs-services/education-learning/take-it-outside-state-park-camps

If you're headed to the prairie management meeting in Amana tomorrow night (6pm 3/12/26 at the Performing Arts Center), grab a seed packet courtesy of Iowa County Pheasants Forever! These are the flower seeds you'll find in your packet - all native plants that will add diversity to your yard and help our pollinators thrive.

Prepping your seed area is the most important part, be sure there is bare dirt. You may need to dig out existing vegetation. You can lightly rake your seeds in, but don't plant them too deep! Spreading them on the soil surface and stepping on them so they have good seed to soil contact is a great way to ensure they don't get buried. Some of these seeds need light to germinate so they should be at the surface. Grab the kids and have a stomping party!!

Keep the area mowed at about 6" for the first two years and you'll enjoy pretty flowers for years to come.
