Institute for Court Management

Institute for Court Management The leader in professional development for court managers since 1970, offering three levels of certification.

Currently, courses are available online in "live" and self-study formats. Leaders of the mid-20th-century court reform movement challenged America’s state courts to improve public service by modernizing management principles. In 1970, they created the Institute for Court Management (ICM) to provide training and education programs. Soon afterward, the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) was fou

nded by the same leadership group to provide information services, which spawned research, technology, consulting, and international divisions. In the 1980s, ICM merged with NCSC, thus consolidating and cross-pollinating a wealth of resources dedicated to the growth and development of the judicial branch. Today, NCSC is acknowledged as the premier provider of services that improve the administration of justice, not only across the United States, but worldwide. The field of court administration has grown exponentially, and ICM’s educational programs are continuously evolving to meet the needs of courts. While in the classroom, judges and court managers discuss innovative and collaborative methods to integrate in their courts. Courses on technology, security, case management, and performance standards are taught in traditional face-to-face seminars, and a growing number of learners are using the Internet to study at a different pace. E-learning allows more frequent participation due to lower cost and easy access. By either means, court personnel are assured outstanding educational opportunities from the premier court reform organization.

It was a treat to see familiar faces today at the Ohio Judicial Conference Court Technology Conference!

First, former NCSC colleague Robinson, Diane M was in attendance to present the closing plenary.

Next, we had a mini-reunion of some of the ICM Fellows from Ohio! From left to right, Matt Pendy, Lori Tyack, Ken Teleis and Margaret Allen Hoyt.

On Friday, NCSC's Education and Professional Development Group bid farewell to Vice President John Meeks, who retired after nearly 20 years of service. The images we're sharing are the front and back covers of a memory book made up of memories and well wishes from 100+ friends and colleagues. The front cover shows the three organizations he served as a judicial branch educator - the Florida Office of the State Courts Administrator, The Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College, and NCSC.

We were privileged to work with John on the ICM certification programs, support of the education for CCJ, COSCA, CCJSCA, and NACM, and other internal and external initiatives. His wise counsel, thoughtful leadership, adult education expertise and sense of humor made our time together rich with learning, growth and laughter as we served the court community.

We wish John the very best in his new chapter!
