Today marks 11 years since the passing of 1LT Todd Weaver. He joined the National Guard after the 9/11 attacks and then came to William and Mary to study Government. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, as well as becoming a Distinguished Military Grad. He leaves behind his wife Emma and daughter Kiley. Please take a moment to think about him and the legacy he left in our community. One Tribe. One Family.

SVW&M are thankful for this opportunity to help local communities and could not have done this without the help and guidance of (Phillip Sheldon), , , (Charlie Foster), , and Genevieve for driving the van on I-64 in the rain, and all the contributions that made this humbling initiative possible.

We had the distinct pleasure of hosting William & Mary Chancellor Robert Gates recently during a virtual Charter Day tradition. The former Secretary of Defense answered questions about Leadership, Patience, Health & Wellness, COVID-19, and how industries might evolve in a working-from-home environment while still valuing the benefits of in-person teamwork. It was a great call and we can't wait to see him again for Commencement in May!

Happy Veterans Day! We wanted to take a moment to thank the more than 20 million men and women who have put on the uniform and served our country. We also wanted to say thank you to everyone who tuned in to the bell-ringing ceremony and has continued to support us through the tribulations of this year. Today, we’d like to feature our next two runners: Phillip Sheldon ‘20, and Maia Earl ‘22.

Phillip Sheldon ‘20 (pictured left) was an Infantryman in the Marine Corps, an International Relations major and has served as the President of SVW&M for almost two years. He was instrumental in shaping transitional strategies for veterans at William & Mary, presenting veterans issues to the Board of Visitors, elevating W&M to the Ivy League Veterans Council, and organized many of our events with other veterans. Today, he was featured on William & Mary’s page ringing the Wren Bell and is eager to run for the fundraiser.

Maia Earl ‘22 (pictured right), is an International Relations major and an Air Force veteran. Maia has supported the Office of Student Veteran Engagement by working in the office since her arrival at William & Mary in Spring 2020. She is passionate about learning other cultures and experiencing the outdoors and wants to help support wounded veterans by running for Semper Fi & America’s Fund from her home in New England.

If you would like to see our other participants and donate to our team (100% of proceeds go towards Semper Fi & America's Fund), please follow the link here: https://go.rallyup.com/ilvcgivesback/ilvc-wm

This Friday, November 13, we're partnering with the Ivy League Veterans Council and doing a fundraiser run for the Semper Fi & America's Fund! The Semper Fi & America's Fund is dedicated to providing immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. We'll be featuring two students each evening until Thursday.

Today, we're featuring Anthony Ventura and Adam Hutchinson! Anthony Ventura '22 (pictured left) is a Business Analytics major and served as a Religious Programs Specialist in the Navy and has been SVW&M's Vice President since 2019. He was instrumental in planning many of our events, including the conference, and has worked with Charlie Foster to support veterans initiatives across campus.

Adam Hutchinson '22 (pictured right) is a Physics major at the university and served as a Mortarman in the Marine Corps. Adam is leading the charge to advance outdoor opportunities for veterans at William & Mary, including creating a new hiking retreat for veterans on the Appalachian Trail.

If you would like to see our other participants and donate to our team (100% of proceeds go towards Semper Fi & America's Fund), please follow the link here: https://go.rallyup.com/ilvcgivesback/ilvc-wm

On November 11th, William & Mary will be hosting its annual Bell-Ringing Ceremony with the Student Veterans of William & Mary, Office of Student Veteran Engagement, and President Rowe in attendance to commemorate Veterans Day.

While Veterans Day looks different this year, we have a lot to celebrate such as the opening of the Office of Student Veteran Engagement, hosting the Ivy League Veterans Council Conference, and receiving a $10 million donation towards establishing the new VET program and sustaining the Office. For Veterans Day this year, we are also giving back to our community by assisting the homeless population in Hampton Roads and a fundraiser run for wounded veterans in collaboration with ILVC.

We will broadcast a Facebook Live feed at 10:45 a.m. on November 11th to give everyone an opportunity to tune into the event. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Are you an undergraduate student that wants to help the homeless community? Do you know any undergraduate students who would like to vote for our cause? For Impact Week, we are partnering with Vetshouse Incorporated, a nonprofit organization that works with homeless veterans in the Hampton Roads area. It is not a shelter but a 12-month program providing contemporary living quarters in a group environment, assistance in job hunting, transportation, personal, and development guidance.

1 out of every 4 homeless people in the Hampton Roads area identifies as a veteran and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this rate. Our Impact Week funds would go towards purchasing items to donate to Vethouse Inc. to distribute to homeless veterans in the Hampton Roads. Many of our student veterans have volunteered to assist, but we could use your help.

If you're currently an undergraduate student or know any students who would like to donate $5 to vote ($5 = 1 vote), please use this link to vote for us! Voting is open from today until this Friday, October 31.
