We are thrilled to share that Tonya, the House Mother of Mel's House in Ukraine, has been awarded the honorary title of ""Mother-Heroine"" by the President of Ukraine!

This prestigious national recognition is awarded to women who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication in raising and nurturing large families. It honors not only the number of children they have cared for, but also their sacrifice, devotion, moral leadership, and contribution to future generations.

Anyone who knows Tonya knows this honor is richly deserved.

For years, she has poured her heart into the lives of children at Mel's House, providing love, stability, guidance, and hope. Through challenges, uncertainty, and even the hardships of wartime Ukraine, she has faithfully cared for children as only a mother can.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it celebrates the very qualities we see in Tonya every day: selfless love, unwavering commitment, and a deep belief that every child deserves to be cherished.

We are thrilled to officially welcome Anya Kiser to the Heart for Orphans Board of Directors.

Anya spent the first eleven years of her life in a Ukrainian orphanage before being adopted by an American family. In a beautiful God-orchestrated connection, Anya shared a classroom at the orphanage with two of Nancy's adopted daughters, Angelina and Natalie—a testament to how God was weaving their stories together long before any of us could see it. (See the throwback photos!)

Her story is a powerful reminder that one act of love can change the trajectory of a child's life forever.

Today, Anya works as a Risk Analyst, lives in Rhode Island, and is passionate about advocating for children still waiting for hope, opportunity, and a family because she once stood where so many of them stand today. She believes that the blessings God has given her life were never meant to stop with her, but to be shared with others.

It’s planting and harvest season at Gerry’s House of Hope 🌱

The family has been hard at work in the fields harvesting what’s ready and planting what’s next. It’s all part of learning responsibility, consistency, and caring for what’s been entrusted to them.

And yes… it’s a lot of work, but they show up and get it done!

At Mel’s House, Tonya has opened her heart to children carrying fear, grief, and uncertainty. Some arrive unsure if they can trust anyone. Others have never experienced the safety of a loving family.

But through patience, prayer, and the love of Christ, Tonya helps them begin to heal.

Because of faithful supporters like you, children are experiencing something many have never known before — a safe home, a caring family, and the hope that comes from being deeply loved.
