🚨 Public Service Announcement – Training Tonight 🚨

The Williamsburg Fire Department will be conducting training exercises tonight on the Greenway Trail and at various locations throughout the area.

During this time, you may see emergency vehicles, firefighters in gear, and simulated emergency scenarios. This is only training—there is no cause for alarm.

These exercises are important to keep our crews prepared and ready to serve our community safely and effectively.

We appreciate your understanding and support!

Our 2025 Christmas Dinner turned out fantastic for our firefighters and their families. Always fun getting to socialize with all of them without the stress on an emergency scene.

As we approach the end of the year, we’re looking ahead to new ideas and goals for 2026. Being a volunteer firefighter means much more than breaking down doors or responding to medical emergencies—it includes many behind-the-scenes responsibilities that keep our community safe.

The Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department is proud to have around 20 dedicated and highly trained volunteers who give their time and skills to serve our community. However, because of the unique needs of our heavily populated Amish area, we have a special need for additional driver/operators to help ensure our apparatus and personnel can respond quickly and safely to emergencies.

Thank you for taking the time to read and share this. We know we’re not the only department facing these challenges, and community support truly makes a difference.

If you’re interested in joining our team or learning more, please contact Chief Josh Smith at 765-277-2594. We’d love to talk with you!

🔥 Time Change Reminder! 🔥

It’s that time of year again — Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend!
⏰ Remember to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed tonight, November 2nd, 2025.

While you’re at it, it’s also a great time to:
✅ Test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
✅ Replace any old batteries
✅ Review your home fire escape plan

Stay safe, and enjoy the extra hour of sleep!

Keep an eye on your friends, family, and neighbors. Let’s help flatten this unfortunate upward trend!

Keep an eye on your friends, family, and neighbors. Let’s help flatten this unfortunate upward trend!

In the past 30 days, the Wayne County Coroner’s Office has investigated five suspected overdose deaths. That number is higher than during the same period last year and reflects a concerning trend in our community.

Area law enforcement and first responders are also seeing an increase in overdose and “man down” calls across the county within the last 30 days. Information shared with our office suggests that a more potent or dangerous supply of narcotics may be present in the area. We are urging everyone to stay alert, check on friends and family, and call for help immediately if you suspect an overdose.

We have also learned that Wayne County currently ranks 2nd out of Indiana’s 92 counties for most overdoses reported when compared to population. These are not just statistics. They are sons, daughters, parents, and friends whose life matters.

Here is what you can do right now:
• Share this post. The more awareness, the more lives we can save.
• Visit OverdoseLifeline.org to find Narcan distribution locations in Wayne County.
• Call 9-8-8 for the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline.
• Reach out to organizations like Bridges For Life, Inc. at 765-396-0050 for recovery resources for yourself or a loved one.
• Comment or tag similar organizations that those in need could reach out to.

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹.

Every share, every conversation, and every act of compassion matters. Together, we can change these numbers and save lives. 💜

🚨 FIRE SAFETY ALERT 🚨
Battery-Powered Doesn’t Mean Risk-Free! 🔋🔥

Power tools, e-scooters, e-bikes, and other lithium-ion battery-powered gadgets are super convenient — but when charged inside your home, they can become a serious fire hazard.

⚠️ Did you know?
Lithium-ion batteries can overheat, catch fire, or even explode if damaged, overcharged, or charged with the wrong equipment.

Stay Safe — Here’s How:
✅ Charge devices in a garage or well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials
✅ Never charge overnight or unattended
✅ Use only the charger that came with the device
✅ Stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, or overheating
✅ Don’t block your exits with charging scooters or bikes

🔥 A fire can start in seconds — don’t give it the chance.
Help us keep our community safe — charge smart, not sorry!

Happy Sunday all!
We would like to first give thanks to all of our community members for your continued support and love you give to all of us at WMFD. Without you, our abilities to serve those in their time of need would difficult.

As many of you are familiar, we have hosted a community bbq event at the end of July/beginning of August during the Williamsburg Community Days for several years.
With that being said, this will be a year for an exception.

Please excuse our absence for a very short period as we rejuvenate our fundraising efforts. We are in the process of preparing some BIG goals for our fundraising efforts and we want to present our plans/goals to our stakeholders with the upmost respectable way as we possibly can.
We know it is extremely important that we demonstrate 100% transparency, and we would not want to take any risks of loosing our trust and credibility in our community and surrounding communities.

Please share the word to your friends, family, and neighbors that we will be taking a very short break from our traditional bbq fundraiser and will be announcing our new fundraising campaign soon!

We will continue our Fill the Boot on the 25th of July.

We thank you again for the continued support!

This morning the Williamsburg Fire Department got to help out a community member by doing a controlled burn of a barn on their property. The land owner has great plans for the property with new construction on the way. It was our pleasure to assist with the removal of the barn in a safe controlled environment.

As summer approaches and the campfires, fire pits, grills, and bonfires start burning, remember to practice safe burning.

1. Always have eyes on the fire.
2. Have adequate means of extinguishing the fire.
3. Only burn clean materials - Clean Wood, Charcoal, Paper, and Yard Waste.

For more information on what can be burned residentially, visit https://www.in.gov/idem/openburning/
