A detail from the painting "Redoubt #9" The French storm Redoubt #9 at Yorktown. The French assault force shouting "Long live the King, Kill , Kill" consisted of the Grenadiers and Chasseurs of the Royal Deux- Ponts (blue faced yellow coats) and Gatinais (white faced violet coats) . The defenders consisted of elements of two Hessian Regiments and several British. Grenades were hurled from both sides and axes freely used in the savage hand to hand in the dark. The French were told to kill anyone in a blue coat (referring to the Hessians) however, in the dark some of the Royal Deux Ponts may have suffered from friendly action. A French officer commented it was so dark that even the red coats looked blue. It was a bit of a challenge to make it dark enough but light enough at the same time. Bonjour Mes amis! Bon neuvelle!

Apologies for the radio silence, all of us have been rather busy of late, but hoping to change that with all the upcoming 250th events.

Starting off the new year, strong with a wonderful artifact being shared by the ever knowledgeable John U. Rees; an original gourd canteen (sadly mislabeled as wood) from the 18th's grenadiers, whom our sister unit Le Régiment Gatinois, 1781 - UK interprets and presents as.

"Last autumn I visited the National Museum of the United States Army, including their special exhibit on the American Revolution. I saw some artifacts I'd not seen before and many I'd never seen in person. Since many of those artifacts would be going back to their lending institutions in December 2025 I figured I would share some images. Here is the first artifact."

Mon amis,

With advancements of the project, and growth of the unit, we are absolutely pleased to announce that our UK branch focused on the grenadiers, is now live!

Both the US and UK have been hard at work all winter, and we of the US branch have been delighted with seeing the work our fellow soldats in the UK have done, and will be sharing with you all on their focused page. Go like and follow them tout de suite!

The painstaking work of hands down one of the best craftsman we have worked with, At The Sign of the Tomahawk has been doing jaw-dropping work as the only business reproducing French manuals. We wholeheartedly endorse the business and product, which is the admiration of several historic interpreters and tradesmen amongst museums the like of Colonial, Williamsburg and Yorktown.
